Need vacation ideas for this summer
So we just started thinking about what kind of trip to take this summer. We were looking into cruises that leave from the city or NJ-- but after further investigation, it doesn't seem like the right fit for us.
Sasha will be anywhere b/t 16 and 19 months, depending on when we go. I am thinking a resort hotel that we can drive to would be best.
We've checked out Mohonk, The Sagamore-- and a couple other places in the northern NY/New England area.
Any other suggestions? We don't want to fly.
Any tips for traveling with a child that age also? I know I have no clue what we're in for!

Re: Need vacation ideas for this summer
Montauk!! DD was the same age last summer and we stayed at Atlantic Terrace two nights right on the ocean and it was great!! I know a lot of people here do Montauk in the summer with LO's. There are lots of places to check out. I would add that I think it would be even more fun to make it a group trip. Do you have another family that you are close with that could go at the same time? Or relatives?

Re: Need vacation ideas for this summer
What about getting a beach house for a week? Like one of the calmer shore towns....we love Cape May. Or do you definitely want to do a hotel? (they also have nice hotels at Cape May)

this is exactly what we did last year-- we rented a house for 2 weeks in cape may. We love it there, but I think we want to try something different this year. I am sure this is just what we are going to end up doing!

Re: Need vacation ideas for this summer
we did a house in montauk wiht friends and that was perfect. we had all the amenities needed for kids and they house had an inground pool. it was a great trip because it made it easy for the adults. when the kids napped we got quiet pool time and we cooked a lot of dinners. it was so much fun

I would check out the Jersey shore, preferably, Lavallette. It's located in between Pt. Pleasant and Seaside. It's a VERY FAMILY-ORIENTED community. My parents have a 2nd home down there which we go to every summer, as well as weekends throughout the year! Google Lavallette beach rentals

Re: Need vacation ideas for this summer
I've never been but we plan to do Lake George.
I've also never been but I read about Pt Pleasant NJ - it's supposed to have a nice boardwalk and little amusement park that is good for toddlers. We plan to do a weekend there.

My cousins went to Lavallette every summer growing up, they loved it.

Montauk or Lake George are always fun and relaxing. We are looking into renting a condo in Bethany Beach, Delaware this summer. It's near Ocean City, but much more family oriented.

Re: Need vacation ideas for this summer
Seriously, I could have written the EXACT same post!!! We looked into the cruise out of NY/NJ too, but DD won't even be allowed in the kiddie pool! What fun would that be for her? I also looked online at hotels in Montauk, but they all seem so outdated and I'm a bit of a pain when it comes to stuff like that. If anyone has a recommendation for a really nice hotel there, please share. Also looked into the Sagamore - very $$$! I'm really not into renting a house. Like you, I'd prefer a resort-like destination. I hope we both find something fun very soon!

i think we are back to the Jersey Shore... after renting a house last summer, it was great. We live in a city/urban area now-- so, having a full house (albeit a small one), with a yard, etc. is luxury in itself. The cruise scares me because we have never been on one, and we don't know what to expect- -and I think Sasha will be too young for that atmosphere.
I do want something different than Cape May though-- so, we are looking at Ocean City, Pt Pleasant-- an I guess now I will check out Lavallette. I never heard of it!
