Need your help with wording a letter FOR daycare.. (super duper long). Hey ex daycare providers... HELP
Scenario: Lots of things have gone wrong with AJ’s care since she moved up a room. The biggest being lack of communication between ‘teachers’ and definitely no communication to me.
They’ve come a long way to correcting some of these issues. They are trying and I give them credit.
About two weeks or so ago while things were still being worked out I said I had no idea what my daughter had eaten and when. I asked the woman who was there when I picked up AJ and she gave me this blank expression then a very nervous look as she pointed to another woman and mumbled something in Spanish to me.
#1 I don’t speak Spanish #2 I look like I should #3 They teach Spanish in this daycare and yes, its one of the reasons I picked it.
So I say to the acting director (they fired the other one) that this upsets me since NO ONE could tell me what was going on with my daughter since the woman she pointed me to didn’t speak Spanish either. So she goes back into the room and asks and gets answers (all in Spanish) and I can follow along.
A few days later, this woman is again taking care of AJ by herself. Again, I need a translator. This time I openly admit that its not my obligation as a Hispanic in San Antonio to know Spanish – since the woman sort of implied that I should. She apologized of course. That was the first time I opened my mouth and confirmed that just cuz I don’t speak it didn’t mean I wasn’t following along.
So fast-forward to today a week or so later from the last time I saw her. Jim calls me to say that daycare has asked us to write a letter. They told him they fired her. Why tell us this?
This sorta freaks out my hubby and I’m sorta…
Then he says Daycare has asked that *I* write a letter to justify that she didn't speak English.
Ok, I am thinking they want to cover their butts. Jim says "Well why hire her if they knew she didnt speak english?" I guess they were under pressure to fill spots. She treated AJ fine and AJ laughed and played with her. Now I have to write this letter.
What the heck do I say?
ugh!
Why even put me in this position?! I should not as a parent be invovled in hiring and firing of their staff. They have my feelings on record and if they don't that's their problem. *sigh*
Knowing me.. i'll write the letter but I feel bad, everyone needs jobs and its not her fault that they hired her without making sure she spoke english.

It's not her fault and it's not your fault! They made this "mistake" if that's what you want to call it and they should fix their mistake. If that means letting the woman go and paying her unemployment then that is the lesson learned.
If you do write the letter, maybe you could say something to the effect that the woman never really spoke English to you from the beginning, just so that you're fair to her and not hurting her chances of collecting unemployment?
It's a tough situation and I applaud you for standing up for yourself

I would not write a letter, but I would write a note to whomever is asking for this letter and write exactly what I quoted!

Absolutely! This is NOT your problem. IMO...leave it alone. Do not write this letter.

Yes I agree, I wouldn't write the letter. But I would be sweet as pie about it so they don't take it out on you/DD.

You absolutely do not have to write that letter...and you absolutely should not. Her employer let her go...that is between them. If her employer, the daycare, was looking to build a case for cause the should have asked you for a written complaint back when you made the verbal.
I say stay far away from this one...I smell something rotten and the last thing you need is to be involved. Your DD will continue to stay at that center, right?

I wouldn't write the letter and I would look for another daycare if this is how they handle their staffing issues.
