NEGOTIATING... uggh!!
ok, so we are going for a house and started with an offer last friday, going back and forth, we are now at a 5k window and neither of us are budging! - the realtors already said they may take a cut in commission just to get the deal done..
then later today they tried to get us up 1250, them down 1250, and they would take less of a cut... WHY WOULD I AGREE TO THAT when they already said they would do it...
dumb move on their part - we are FIRM! (even more so now b/c they said that and they are starting to aggrivate us)
ETA - this house is upstate, not LI prices... about half that!...

I would just be careful that you don't lose it over this, unless you are willing to. If you really, really love the house, I would cave in for the 5k. Or what if you came up 2,250 and make that your last offer?
Whatever you decide, I'm wishing you the best! Good luck!!

Where upstate? DH & I just bought in Monroe (in Orange County) not too long ago. I would be firm, you will not loose the house. We bid VERY low and were firm. However, they were desperate to sell and it was a fixer upper. Plus, being in the RE business, I knew they would cave. Go with your gut and good luck.

In the grand sceme of things, 5K is nothing when it comes to a mortgage. I would probably just come up the 5K to get the deal done. What will it be...add $1 to your mortgage? I wouldn't want to risk it, if I loved the house. JMHO

Re: NEGOTIATING... uggh!!
It really depends on how badly you want the house. You don't want to lose it over 5K.

this is my attitude as well, but I see your point, the realtors stuck their foot in their mouth.
good luck!
