Neighbors & Trees

How does this work?

Our backyard is lined in 15' Hemlocks. One side is flourishing - really thick and lush and a good 5' taller than the other 2 sides...which are thinner and spotty in areas.

This is b/c 2 sides are being suffocated by neighboring trees. Not even nice trees - some are half dead trees.

My one neighbor (who is a really good friend of mine) is willing to cut down this one tree...but kind of proposed it as something we'd incur together.

Is that the way it goes? We'd split the cost with a neighbor (even if him cutting down this tree will save another one of his gorgeous trees)? Just curious about neighboring ethics.

Well I know that my sister's neighbor has two trees that are making a mess out of her trees and cable lines. She spoke with the neighbor about it and they agreed to take them down if my sister would split the cost with them.
