Nervous to try yoga
I hardly ever work out and I'm scared I won't make it through a class without collapsing It something that I would love to incorporate in my life because of all the benefits, but getting started is the hard part. Any advice?

You can only fail if you never try
Yoga is a great activity that you can do at your own pace. Everyone has to start somewhere - don't be afraid to give it a try! I say go for it!

You are so right. I keep telling myself that I should be in better shape before I give it a shot, but I'm just procrastinating

Re: Nervous to try yoga
Don't wait..Yoga is for everyone and if you go consistently, you will see yourself get stronger! Enjoy it! If you are too self-conscious, you can get a DVD (like AM/PM yoga or Crunch Fitness Yoga) even from the library to give it a shot at home. A sticky mat is a must, but everything else is you...you can do it!

Good idea! I'd rather fall on my face at home first If I do go to the class, I should bring a mat, right?

Re: Nervous to try yoga
I would get the mat regardless...you are on your hands and feet a lot and don't want to slide around...rumor has it that TJ Maxx has them for great prices (under $15) and it's worth it..I've got two since the place I go has a hard floor and my original old mat was short for some reason and caught a sale at Target for that one...enjoy it! I don't know where you live, but some local libraries offer classes that come out $5 each-a bargain!

I got one from Target too Ive had it for a while and have been using it for working out at home. And the rumor about TJ Maxx is totally true-- I just saw some there not long ago. The gym I belong to has classes but I havent been there much since I joined I'm planning on going to a class on Saturday morning. My schedule is awful, but Saturday mornings is something I can commit too so I'm hoping it goes well. And I can take advantage of the membership I've been paying for!

Re: Nervous to try yoga
There you go! Please keep us posted..I really do love yoga and wish that the studios weren't so expensive because I love the woman at the library, but can only catch her the one day a week....remember to smile during class-that's one of the biggest things your instructor should tell you!!

Re: Nervous to try yoga
Being a larger person myself I was nervous to try yoga. I decided to take a class back in Oct/Nov and have been hooked ever since. It relaxes me so much and I love what my body is able to do. What type of yoga class are you taking? Move at your own pace and don't push too hard.

Re: Nervous to try yoga
I'm taking my first Vinyasa class this saturday in West Babylon. If you're in the area- you should come! Then at least you know you won't be the only beginner!
It's at the Yoga Darshana Center on Great Neck Road and is taught by one of our LIF ladies

We just got FiOS and thus, Fit TV, today. Can you tell me when the yoga class is on so I can DVR it?

Yes - it is called Namaste Yoga. There are several different series, they are all good. I have them all saved on my DVR And I do them whenever I need a good stretch and stress reilief! Its nice to fast forward through the commericals too, its probably only about 23 minutes, sometimes I do two in a row!
