Neurologist that specializes in Aspergers/high functioning autism
Hi ,
Can anyone recommend a neurologist for a 13 year old with this condition. I am looking for a dr that specializes in it.
We have been to Dr Robin Smith already.

Neurologist that specializes in Aspergers/high functioning autism
I would recommend Dr Marcia Bergtraum BUT she does not accept insurance. She is in the field a long time and very knowledgeable.

IMO Dr. Adesman is the best Dev. Ped for this area, however I do not believe he is taking new patients. dr. Huang may. What are you looking for a neurologist for? We see Dr. Smith mainly for ADHD medicine follow ups.

I liked Dr smith but I feel like I need someone that will help me help my son. He was only diagnosed last year at 12 and before that the previous neurologists that I saw said he was ADHD. I agree more with Dr Smith than neurologists that diagnosed ADHD. What bothers me is that Dr Smith only recommended social skills groups, which I signed my son up for.
I guess I am just struggling with how to help my son because it's a long term condition that can be managed but not cured.

I tried to get an appointment last year. He wasn't taking anymore patients.

Are there specific behaviors you are trying to manage? social skills groups are a big help with ASD/Aspergers. Do you belong to SASI and any support groups? Do you need school support?

I think I need a support group. He is constantly talking to himself. It's like he shuts out the world . I know what it's is..he likes certain tv shoes and the are on rotation in his head.
We get a lot of help at school but what is SASI?
