Is there a such thing as a foot doctor that specializes in toddlers?
or would I just take her to a regular podiatrist if I had issues with her feet. A while back I posted that Ava was walking with her right foot turned in....well when I mentioned it to the Dr. he brushed it off by saying it was a malformation that occured in the wonb and should correct itself in 12 years. What the hell kind of answer is that? Meanwhile when I put Ava down to show the dr how she walks she didn't even move so how could you give an answer like that. So I was thinking of taking her straight to a foot dr. She is still a baby and if there is something wrong I would like to correct it now not 12 years from now

Although a podiatrist may be a great idea, you might also want your dr. to refer you to a physical therapist.. gross motor skills.. unless you can definately see something "different" with the structure of her foot.

See thats the thing....my Dr. stinks (I'm in the process of finding a new one) so i was thinking of going straight to the podiatrist for him/her to check it out and then I'm sure they would recommend physical therapy if it was needed.
KPtoys......I don't think its terrible and I probably wouldnt even have noticed it if it wasn't for her shredded sneakers. Were Emmas sneakers a mess too?

Re: Is there a such thing as a foot doctor that specializes in toddlers?
don't go yet, is she trippong over her feet, or does she just "look" VERY pigeon toed? ALL of my kids are/were soooo pigeon toed and i was so concerned and it corrected itself. Your daughter is so young, still growing, don't worry about it, really, no need to rush to a specialist, unless, like i said, she is tripping over her feet. (one of my good friends at the hospital where I work is an ortho doc and he actually looked at my daughter oneday when i brought her for a visit to work and he said "not unless she is tripping all over herself WHEN WALKING", when they run they alwasy fall even when they are 2 or 3.

Emma refused to wear sneakers. I did a lot of research on it since I was worried that her foot would always turn in but my ped said it would straighten itself out and sure enough it has. Just give it time.

Re: Is there a such thing as a foot doctor that specializes in toddlers?
Yes, there is absolutely such a thing as podiatrist specializing in pediatrics. We took Benjamin to one just last months because we were worried he was getting flat feet.
We actually really liked the Doctor, he was great with Benji and just an overall very pleasant person. I would totally recommend him. I am not sure where you live but he is in Queens.
And i absolutely agree--you should check the issue with her foot out right now, not in 12 years. What a ridiculous responce from a doctor.

I believe you should take her to an orthopedist, and someone who works with children. I don't think this is something that will just "correct" itself. She will get used to walking like that and began to compensate for it. She may need special shoes that will help retrain her foot.
