Never been to Italy- Where to go?

HI. My husband and I are going to go to Barcelona to visit some friends for a few days. We would like to then go onto Italy. Where would you suggest?? Thinking that we will have about 4 days to spend.

ANy help would be greatly appreciated. My husband has never even been out of the county, (I travel a ton globally for work), so I want to make sure it is enjoyable for him.

BTW- Hoping to go around March

Thanks!

I agree-- if you only have 4 days-- I would do 2 days in Florence, then 2 days in Rome-- and you can fly out of there.

Venice was great as well- but Rome may make more sense for travel plans.

I too loved Florence.

Re: Never been to Italy- Where to go?

appreciate the advice- one more question....can you do a day trip from Rome to Florence? Is this possible. Do you know how long a train ride would be?

Thanks

I do not remember-- but I traveled through Europe via train on a Eurail pass-- and we did Rome, Florence and Venice and spent two nights in each place-- and took overnight train rides to travel to each place-- I don't think you can day trip.

Thanks for all your advice. I am leaning towards Rome.

After hearing such great things about Venice and Florence, I hope I am making the right decision, but it really does not sound like you can go wrong anywhere in italy.

If you go to Rome for all four days you could always take one day to go down to Sorrento or other Amalfi Coast towns. Beautiful! If I remember correctly it was only about 2 1/2 hours from Rome...Chat Icon But I would double check that.

I have been to Italy twice and to be quite honest with you, I felt that Rome didn't have that real "Italy" feeling. It is a major city (big, dirty and busy) and obviously has some wonderful things (ruins), but if you want to really experience the romantic, artsy, friendly side of Italy, I would definitely- between the two - recommend Florence over Rome.

It is so funny that you posted this. I think I changed my mind over the weeked, and will seriously be looking at florence, for your exact reasoning above over Rome

thanks
