"Never wake a sleeping baby"
At what point does that motto come into play?
DD is almost 3 weeks and has been sleeping for about the last hour (in my mom's arms!). She usually eats every 2 hours but we're coming upon 3 hrs right now. Should I wake her? Or let her sleep?

I never woke DD, I say enjoy the rest... use the time to get something done or to do nothing at all!

Re: "Never wake a sleeping baby"
I wouldn't wake her... get her used to going longer between feedings... She will wake up when she's hungry...

Re: "Never wake a sleeping baby"
Is she breastfed? If she is formula fed I would let her sleep. If she is BF I would wake her a little over the 3 hour mark.

May I ask what the difference is?

BF works on supply and demand. if your BF'ing you don't want to wait to long between feedings because at 3 weeks you are still building your supply. I always had the baby that would fall asleep while it was time to feed him (BF;ing). I had to undo his clothes or tickle his feet. My kid could have slept the day away! They suggest no more than 5 hours at night and then wake them to BF if they are still sleeping. I think once your supply is established you pray for the kid to sleep through the night! I know I did!

OK, I guess I see your point... DD was EBF for 11 months so I know what you're saying... although if DD didn't wake up within 5 hours at night, there was no way I was waking her and my supply stayed ok...

Me too I BF for 13 months and NEVER woke my DD, I didn't care if my boobs were sore, I'd let her sleep.

Re: "Never wake a sleeping baby"
I just went by what the Dr said in the very beginning. I had a drowsy baby that didn't gain weight quickly.

I agree. Unless the doctors are concerned about her weight, let her sleep!

Re: "Never wake a sleeping baby"
I never wake DD - I was told to feed her on demand and if she sleeps let her - as long as it isn't for like 6 hours. Unless your baby isn't gaining weight as she should be.

Re: "Never wake a sleeping baby"
I woke DD during the day to eat every 3-4 hours, but never at night. During the day now she has a wonderful schedule so it paid off for me.
