New baby and dogs

Hello fellow pet lovers. Im looking for some advice on what to do with our two dogs. We just brought our newborn son home on Monday. We have two golden retriever dogs that DH shares with his ex wife. She has been nice enough to take them for a week or two while we adjust and I heal from my c section.

Any suggestions on how to introduce the dogs back home with the baby??? TIA!

Re: New baby and dogs

I have two dogs.

One crazy one and one thats more melllow. I was nervous too. But, it really hasnt been that bad.

When i was in the hospital my DH took some blankets home so they can smell her. But when we got home we just let them smell and lick her. I didnt care much about the licking. There is no avoiding that.

I also brought them a bone home to associate something good with her. I gave it to them right away the day i came home from the hospital.

I also dont kick them out of the baby's room. They are allow in there.

Ihope that helps.

Re: New baby and dogs

I send the hospital blanket home with DH when I had my son for my yorkie to smell. When I came home I let her smell the baby and some of his belongings. I was nervous because she is so attached to me, I didnt want her to get jealous or scared of the baby. She was actually a litte protective over him, everytime my son cried she would come running up to me and then dash right back next to me as if she was saying "Hello your baby is crying, go and see what he needs". DS is now 5mths old and he touches her (sometimes a little too rough but she dont mind), she sits on my lap next to him when I am feeding him. They both adjusted very well.
