New backpack every year?

I told ds that he can get a new lunchbox every year but not a New backpack. Unreasonable or not?

And where do you get backpacks?

I buy Pottery Barn backpacks. My DD got one in K and a new one in 1st because she begged for a new one (I wanted her to reuse the one from K). Now for 2nd, she said she wants to use her K one. So I just washed it the other day and it’s ready to go. She picked out a new lunch box from Target.

I guess it depends how badly the previous one got abused

My little guy is going into third grade and I just came across previous years backpacks in the basement. The k and first grade ones are ok. Second grade one got pretty beat up sonwe def will get him a new one

Plus if they have characters on them that they don’t like anymore that’s a reason to change.

We used to buy one each year when we got the cheap ones (with characters). Now that we have a better one, he's keeping it until it's unusable (but I might buy a backup while they're on sale since his current one has taken a beating over the summer).

my is only going into second. For K, i got him a new one.... it was a cheap character one ( I was ok with it, because i feel like theres only a short time that they're into the things with characters and stuff...) SOO it was beat by the end of the year. So i got him a new character one for first grade. That one didn't even make it through the year, so he got another new one sometime in the spring. So he's gonna start off this year with that same one, since its still pretty new.
i figure in another year or so when he's not as into the character ones, i'll get a good one that will last him a few years. (LL Bean or somewhere like that...)

What are some good brands besides pottery barn? I have always gotten the character ones for my son but last year it didn't even last the whole school year. I want to get one that will last a few years.

I get one every year but I buy the cheap 10-20 ones at Walmart. They last all year and then he uses it for summer camp, by the time camp is over it has sand and the bag is a wreck.

If I bought an expensive, quality bag, I would make him reuse it.

We have bought jansport the past 2 years. I just asked my going into 5th grader if she can just reuse last years (since it's in great shape) and she is spoiled and wants a new one. We definitely could reuse though

We have gotten a new one every year so far because they always wanted a different character one and I got the cheap ones at Toys R Us with the free lunch box.

This year my oldest DD picked out a more expensive one and said she wanted to use it next year too, so we will see how she feels about it come next summer lol

I get my DD a new Vera Bradley one every year. Tradition for us. The old ones never show any wear, and I just usually give them away to someone who needs a backpack

Yes because she gets bored of them and wants a new one.
Last year she had a Justice one and it held up SO well, it looks brand new.
I was all set to use it this year until the Justice catalog came and BAM, now she wants the mermaid one.

My son used a Nike backpack for 4th and 5th grade. Now it's pretty done and we are getting a new for 6th.

My SS is using his Jansport for the second year in a row and that's AWESOME bc he destroys everything

My son has had the same under armour for at least 3 years and its in great shape still amazingly. I'm sick of looking at it though so I forced him to get a new one for the upcoming school year.

My daughters insist on new backpacks every year even though the Justice ones they had this year and last year are still in perfect condition.

My daughter is going into 6th and she gets a new one every year. It's like an accessory to all the girls and they send texts back and forth making sure they all get different ones.

We do pottery barn bags and my boys will be using theirs for grade 1 starting September. They also used them in K. My daughter wanted a new one so we got one from Justice for the upcoming year but the year after she’s agreed to use her pottery barn again.

My kids have the same LL Bean backpacks for years. They look brand new and have held up great for 6 years now. They do get new lunch boxes yearly as those seem to break quickly.

My kids are only in daycare, but I got them LL Bean backpacks. If you watch for a sale they're around $30, and they last forever.

I bought my older son a character backpack when we first switched from the diaper bag. It was about $20, and it didn't even last a full year. The bag was literally falling apart.

Yes new one every year. I have bought whatever they wanted. The backpacks from potterybarn and Justice have held up amazingly well we use them for travel or religion class. The character ones I just throw away. I don't mind buying a new one every year its part of the excitement of the first day of school. Along with the lunch box, pencil case and supplies.

If it's still in good condition and you think it can make it through another school year... keep it and save the $$.

Nope. It's in great condition so he'll be using it again. His choice. Mind you he also insisted on using the same markers, colored pencils, barely used comp books etc..... Again, his choice.

We do Under Armour backpacks. They just got new ones after using them for 2.5 years but could’ve gotten away with another year with them.
