New here... question(s) for those that have used Mutt Manners
Hi everyone... this is my first post ever on LIF! I search the boards frequently for recommendations, but have always been too shy to post.
Anywhoo... I have a Boxer that is in serious need of training. I have read so many great things about MM that I figured I'd come on *just to make sure* everyone is still happy with the training there. I e-mailed the company for some information, but of course... actual testimony is always a great thing.
My dog is a sweetheart most of the time. She needs some manners, for sure. But at the moment, I am not comfortable having her out of her crate when my 5 year old has some friends over. This is SO not what I wanted. I took her for training before, and all of the stuff we practiced... and yes, every morning and every night we practiced... seems to have gone out the window. Actually, I don't ever think it got IN the window in the first place!!!
So if you loved this company, please can you just share with me why? I know it's been covered before, but... well, I guess I just need to hear it again (Dixie is like my second child, so I am obviously protective of her and want to make sure this works!!!)
I am out in Suffolk county, closer to Port Jeff, so I think it's kind of a haul... do they service out this way? Or would I have to go into Farmingdale (which wouldn't be a problem). I've read it was expensive... I am considering the in-home option at the moment, though the board-and-train option doesn't sound half bad, either, as a way to get her started and then I could learn how to maintain it or whatever. I dunno. I'm just so confused!!!
(wow... I'm sorry my very first post was so long and rambly! I usually don't talk this much, honest!!! And thanks for reading, if you got through it all)

I actually was the one that messaged you back today from the company. I just started answering phones for them but if you look back in my history of talking about them, you can see I was extremely happy with them! They really saved my dog because I was on the verge of giving her back to the shelter and she's a pit mix. She would've been euthanized in a second. I would just set up an appointment for the evaluation and talk with one of the trainers. Honestly, they're not sales people, theres no pressure so really, there's no harm. But like I told you in the email, your situation sounds A LOT like mine was with Jameson. I couldn't have people over and just taking her for walks gave me panic attacks. I hope to talk to you soon

Oh my gosh, that makes me feel so much better! Actually, your posts pretty much were the ones that made me really decide to look into them! So to know that you are the one that works for them, too... that just makes it better! Being brand new here, I didn't put two and two together...
Thanks Kimmie... I will be calling, probably Friday (when my boss is out, LOL)
Thank you again!!!!

Re: New here... question(s) for those that have used Mutt Manners
awww thank you!! I literally just started answering the phones like a week and a half ago. They needed someone part time and knew I was a SAHM and it just worked! Like I said, all of my advice and experiences, it's not as an employee. I would never try to per sway someone towards a company just because I work there. I used Derrick and he's a lifesaver! Jon has worked with Jameson a lot as well and they both know how to calm her down when she goes crazy (she for some reason doesn't like kids, she lunges towards them which is why if you go to group class, you'll see her with a muzzle on) Having a kid now, that was my biggest concern and while she's amazing with my son, she still gets nutty. We're working really hard with her though and trying to get her near kids more often. Even though I trained her over a year ago, they still worked with me. They've been known to help people in situations years after they trained. They're just fantastic! I hope I'll be talking to you friday then

We used them and are more than pleased! We we have a Boxer too! Maximus could be the spokes dog for boxers!...hyper!But he is the most loveable sweet loyal dog there is! That being said we starting using MM when he was about 6 or 7 months old. I was 7 months preggo! We wanted to get under control the jumping, counter surfing, pulling on the leash, and the basic, sit and down. Frank came to our house for a few weeks and we also went to group classes. Maximus was listening to us after the first visit. His loveable playful personality never changed! And now when we go for walks he is right at my side...actually right next to the baby's side! haha! I would recommend them to everyone I know. (i have acutally!) Good luck! And please post pics of you boxer! There are pics of mine in my albums! FM if you have more questions!

Re: New here... question(s) for those that have used Mutt Manners
So yay, I have my evaluation appointment set for Monday! I'm pretty excited, I hope it goes well. Will need to pitch the cost factor to my husband since the last training class cost a fortune and totally flopped, LOL... so that should be fun!!! But I'll figure it all out eventually.
renee92405 - your Boxer sounds so sweet! Dixie really is a great dog. She is sooooo energetic, it's amazing. So on top of needing some manners, I really don't want her tackling and taking down any kids in the backyard.
One of our biggest problems is that she has the attention span of a gnat. Or maybe less than that. Plus, she's a bit on the dopey side... but I love her more for it!!! I hear these are both common Boxer traits?
I'm glad to hear that Maximus kept his personality through the whole thing. I want a good dog, and a fairly obedient dog, but I don't want to sacrifice her goofy personality through it all. I am so glad to hear that you had good results with MM. I'm really looking forward to our evaluation.
(Now... to figure out how to post pics in an album! So much new stuff to learn! LOL)
