new here with questions re: birth control & bd
so DH and I decided that we wanted to TTC next month but I still have around 13 days left of BC.. should I stop taking them now or when I run out? my other question is I'm going on vacation sept 4-8th and an ovulation calendar says i should be "o" by then.. should we bd every day? is there such thing as bd'ing too much? do you recommend more than once a day if we're on vacation since we have the time? should i avoid alcohol during my vacation?

first thing to know is that you may not o right after coming off the birth control pill.
your body may take awhile to 'adjust' to no longer being on the pill.
i think preparation for that is a MUST...so that you aren't surprised by it...

Re: new here with questions re: birth control & bd
I'd finish the pack of BCP b/c I'd be worried that stopping in the middle could really mess up my cycles. Also, if you're just coming off BCP, I wouldn't trust a website about when you're going to ovulate. There's a good chance you won't have regular cycles right after coming off BCP, especially if you didn't have regular cycles before BCP. When I went off the pill, I think I ovulated around CD 20.
Good luck!
ETA: Most people BD every day or every other day around their O time. The only issue with BDing every day or multiple times per day would be if your DH has certain issues (I think a low sperm count, but I'm not sure). As far as alcohol, I personally didn't change my habits during TTC. I had a few drinks, ate sushi, etc. during the 2WW.

i should've also mentioned that i used to not have regular AF then about 2 and a half months ago the dr suggested i start it (even though we knew a few months later we'd ttc) so i haven't been on the bc very long.

If you had irregular cycles, then there's really no way to know when you're ovulating unless you chart and/or use OPKs. I think websites calculate your O date based on a normal 28 day cycle. That wouldn't be helpful for someone who has irregular cycles.

No that doesn't count. Your periods are controlled with the BCPs. It's not a true period, as you don't O while your on the pill.

BCP doesn't count. It's not an indication of your true cycle. I was on BCP for 9 years. While on the pill, I got AF every 28 days. Before BCP, I got AF every 5.5-7.5 weeks.
I thought I'd base my O on EWCM, but it was so screwy the month I stopped taking BCP. The only way I could really tell that I O'd was b/c I got sharp pains on my left side for several days around CD 19 or 20.

You can't predict when you will O based on your BCP cycle, since it is regulated and since you haven't O since being on BCP. I agree with the above advice--take it easy and have fun for the first couple months, because you may not O at all, and your cycle will most likely be unpredictable.
We BD every night the entire first month off of BCP.
