New in neighborhood, who made first move with intros?

....When you moved into a new neighborhood, town, etc and were "the new folks on the block"....what was your experience?

Did you go up and introduce yourselves to your next door/surrounding neighbors or did the previous homeowners in the neighborhood come to you and introduce themselves?

they all came out to see the newbies. We got to know each other quickly.

they came to us. We are good friends already with our neighbor from across the street. he is much older than us and feels like he should guide us.
he's a good guy.

We just moved in last weekend and the majority of neighbors came right on over to us when they saw us moving in. We still have not met the neighbors directly on one side of us but neighbors from 4 homes on our court have come over to introduce themselves and welcome us.

We met everyone the same day, when we were in our front yard raking leaves. They all stopped by on their way in or out (or made an excuse to come over).

They didn't even know that the previous homeowners left! They weren't friendly with them, and since we snatched the house up on an advance viewing before the first open house, there was never any for sale sign on the lawn.

They all got us Christmas presents the first year, and it was nice and unexpected. So last year I made cookies for everyone. I really appreciated them making the first move. I like (most of) my neighbors.

When we were working on the house 1 neighbor gave us a bottle of wine to welcome us, 1 gave us a dozen donuts and we got a bunch of cards.

My neighbors are very good to us

They came to us immediately, like moths to a flame.

Wow, there are a lot of great neighbors out there!

We had such a varied experience that I was curious what everyone else's experience was... On one side of our home our neighbors came over with a bottle of champagne, flowers and a card the first week. Our across the street neighbors took about a month till we were both out together but came to the sidewalk and intro'd themselves. But the other side of our home...we had seen those neighbors outside three or four times (been at our home for 10 months now) and we always went for the awkward wave hello and they would just look away and walk in their house. We were pretty sure they saw us at least two of those times, but didn't reciprocate (The houses in our neighborhood are pretty close together). Then yesterday they rang our doorbell and introduced themselves kind of threw me off. 10 months later and several instances of seeing one another and they make the gesture...just thought it was a bit odd.

they came over to us while we were cleaning up the front yard. We are still meeting new neighbors even after almost 2 years of living there. People say hello and tell us what a great job we did on the house when they are walking around the block. (It was a mess.)

ETA: about a month after we moved in the neighbors right around us all had a BBQ welcoming us to the neighborhood. We also had one last year too. Great neighbors. We are very lucky to have good neighbors. Now we have to have a BBQ this year. The previous owners really divided up the area because no one liked them. So it's nice to know we brought a neighborhood back together after many years of not talking to one another.

They all came to say hi to us. We joke its cause they wanted to see what idiots paid over $600k for homes they paid $250 for.

We moved in 2-3 weeks ago, and 3 of our neighbors came over when DH was outside mowing or trimming the bushes. No one brought gifts. There is one strange family across the street who stares but doesn't wave/say hello, even when we wave...

We are in an apartment now and we have 3 other doorways by ours -we met two of our neighbors approx 1 year after we moved in - the other 'nightmare' neighbor.. is just that.. never a formal hello.. more of an in your face type of cursing match...

we are moving in about a month, we have been to the house a few times and I have driven past a few times, I havent even SEEN our new neighbors....

our neighbors, they came over when we started building, they all are very friendly.

I would say 50-50. Some came here and we went to others.

it took a few weeks before the neighbors came out to meet us.

They came to us with dunkin donuts, cards, baked brownies and balloons, i LOL you not. We moved from the city where no one even looked at you, so it was a big shock to us.
