New middle school teacher!
I just found out I'm being transferred from HS to middle school!!
I'll be teaching 7th and 8th grade Social Studies (which works b/c its basically the same curriculum I taught in H.S), but also 8th grade ELA and Reading!
Any ideas at all for 8th grade ELA and Reading? Fun projects maybe? Any advice for teaching 7th and 8th graders? I'm used to H.S!

Hi. I teach 7th grade English. Do you need help with the actual curriculum? What novels/literature does your school have available?

I'm teaching 8th grade. I don't know the curriculum, don't know what my school has. I'm basically being thrown into this. Hopefully I can get more info at staff dev. next week!

Re: New middle school teacher!
I taught JHS for 4 years before moving to H.S. I approached 8th grade from a backwards approach. Having been a HS teacher, you'll actually find it easy if you think about what you want them to know as freshmen entering HS and focusing on teaching the skills they need to get there. As far as management and expectations go, have the same standards that you would for 9th graders. My 8th grade and 9th grade classes are very similar in this respect...of course having the curriculum would help!
