New Mom needs some help...anyone up?

My daughter, Gianna, is good during the day.

Once night time comes...She is up all night and only wants to be held. right now...that isnt owrking...she is screaming...Last night I did not sleep at all. I understand that the first days of life...parents can be sleept deprve.
I tried feeing her bf...and I gave her formula suplement. She wants nothign to do with DH....and when I hold her close...she stops....We swaddled...she comes out of it....Swing...pacifier....I don't know....
I am on an emotional rollercoster as it is...and now I need some mommy help.
All my DH keeps saying is she is hungary...get the formula. He doesnt understnad that I cant control my milk supply. She is obviously getting somethign...bc when I feed her during the day...she is happy...pooping, and peeing..

This post prob makes no sense....I am just desprate.
Anyhting woudl be great!
Marisa

Re: New Mom needs some help...anyone up?

send DH to CVS/Walgreens

buy any of the baby gas x/little tummies for gas/or infant mylanta.

they are safe to give her as a NB, and she can start taking them now.... if i remember correctly the appropriate dosage is 0.4 mL for an infant.... I had to start giving them to my daughter when she was 2 weeks old per her ped. the form that i was supplementing her with was making her very gassy.

AWww...first of all, congrats new mommy! In my opinion, in those first few weeks, you should do whatever you need to so that you and baby are happy. If she needs to be held all day, just do it. Do you own a sling? They're great in the beginning and give them a sense of security. Also, a heart beat sound helps them. They make special little bears that have the heart beat sound, or also a noise machine with it. Where is she sleeping? In a bassinette or in a crib? The first few days can be very uncomfortable for a baby because adjusting is so hard. Just keep her close and try running the vacuum or the hair dryer to see if it helps calm her. Chat Icon

What your DH says is very common. I remember always hearing that the baby must be hungry, from DH, MIL, etc. Chat Icon Chat Icon

What I remember from the first few weeks of DS's life were holding him almost all the time. I would actually sleep in the recliner, with him in my arms, propped on the boppy. (I was always checking to make sure I had his face upright and away from my chest, cradled in my elbow.)

Good luck!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

You said you tried swaddling too but "she came out of it". Have you gotten a swaddle-me? Those work great and I have found they can't get out of them like blankets (which I don't think we should really be using anyways with newborns).

The gas could be the issue too. I know someone with a new baby posted a similar issue on here recently and I think she ended up having to get a prescription formula.

Aww Maris.....I think Ant just wants to fix the problem and doesn't realize you can't just fix it. He feels bad that Gianna is crying. I had the same problem with Chris and all we did was argue and it made BF and trying to figure it out even worse.

You already are doing great! She is nursing the day like a champ it sounds. The fact that you are not supplementing durning the day and she has wet diapers is great and don't think she needs a bottle at night. I think the gas is just making her really uncomfortable.
What are you eating at night? She may have a very sensitive stomach or maybe silent reflux. I would ask the ped. when you see them this week. Try giving her Mylicon after you feed her and burp her frequently. Generally you shouldn't need to burp a BF baby but if she is eating really fast then she might be getting to much air if she is gulping.

I hate that I am not close by to help you

Re: New Mom needs some help...anyone up?

To be honest... i was very frustrated with bf because i didnt know how much ds was getting.... i ended up opting to pump and feed instead... it just eased my mind...

i worked nights prior to ds being born and it was a nightmare because ds ate everytime i was eating at work... only saving grace is that my dh was, at the time, working evenings and would come home and let me sleep for a few hours....

what formula are you supplementing with.... when i told my ped i was supplementing with similac advance (which the hosp put him on) she told me that she was surprised he could handle it because it makes babies very gassy... which for him it did but he was off of it pretty soon after.... so try changing formulas...

as for the husband front... dh to this day thinks that the solution for every cry is to feed him... which in the beginning when ds was eating 60 ounces a day it was true... now not so much... i have learned to just brush off the commentary from the peanut gallery... hard to do at 4 am.... but sometimes you have no choice
