New Mom Question - i'm really sorry if it's a dup

hi ladies -

i'll do my 'official' hi later - when i'm not as overwhelmed.... (for those not aware - I was in the hospital for 10 days after delivery due to some fun fun complications and today is our first day home since Emma's birth on the 3rd of June).

quick question - at the hospital - we had to keep a log of feeding amounts, poops and pees. Should we continue this log for the pediatrician? I am on some SERIOUS meds (roids, blood pressure, inhalers, etc) - so breastfeeding is not an option right now for me (though pumping and dumping is what i plan to do once things calm down). She is being formula fed - just about 4 ounces every 4 hours or so (she's a BIG girl)...

We have our first peds appointment on Tuesday morning - and i want to be sure i have what they need from us....so should we continue the log? last night was a blur - i have no idea how often she fed - but when she woke up and wanted food - i gave it to her...(it was a VERY long night)...

thanks in advance and i can't wait to share our story and news and info with all of you amazing women...

Jess..

I did this for a while. I just kept a pad and pen in the kitchen and at night I brought it in to my room. It was so crazy int he beginning, if I didnt write it down I had no clue when the last time I fed or changed her was.

The ped wanted to know about how many oz she was eating per feeding and per day.

First of all - welcome home...

My ped didn't ask for a log. The first week or so you'll see a lot of poopy diapers - I would just try to remember to see a few a day. And as long as she is eating regularly don't worry about it.

Believe me - even in the mass confusion of first coming home you will know if something isn't right...

Good Luck!

I *think* keeping track of pee/poo diapers is more of an issue if you are EBF to ensure that DC is getting enough. As long as DC is drinking the formula and not spitting up a lot you can assume she's processing it Chat Icon . I did keep track of the poo diapers more of a precaution to ensure that everyting was "working" the way it should. If DC doesn't have a bowel movement for a few days it could cause stomach/gas/cramping issues.

Hi, I didn't do this. But after DD's second appt of the month (she was a preemie) and the ped was not happy with her weight gain, he asked us to write down when and what she ate.

At her next appt., 2 weeks later he said she was eating fine and she gained enough weight to make him happy.

Otherwise, no, I didn't do it and I wouldn't worry about it until your appt.

We kept a log for a while, longer than most probably...I was EBF and DD had colic, so we were so sleep-deprived that I honestly had no recollection of when she last ate or had a new diaper some days.

This is what I did too. Having a chart that you can just check off makes it so much easier and I found it helpful when I went tothe ped. b/c I knew how many pee/poo diapers and how many oz. a day!

Hope you are feeling better!

Hi I actually did it for the first couple of months ~ I was so sleep deprived I was afraid when I went to the dr I would have a brain freeze & my dr asked every visit and wanted to know everything. It was easier for me to write it down I had the pad sitting on my kitchen counter

Welcome Jess!
I have this book and LOVE it. it's a journal that you note everything in. I use it everyday and find it really helpful in keeping track of everything.

I did it for a while for my own sanity. I would sometimes take a nap, get overwhlemed, consumed with something and forget when he last ate...
