New monitoring hours at Dr. B's.

Not sure how I feel about this yet..

Margaret called me to change my appointment for Monday from 4pm to 8am. She said that they are now starting to do monitoring earlier, starting at 7:45, and they are not doing it in the afternoon. Linda and Sandra will be doing the monitoring to get us in and out faster.

Of course, this was the first time that I was going to have a appointment that I was not going to have to leave work early for. I work from 8:30-3:30 and am about 1/2 an hour from Dr. B's. Now I will be arriving late instead of leaving early like I usually did. The problem is that I am missing a lot less important things by leaving work early than arriving late.

So, I guess I'll see how things go this cycle and how much of a hassle it is. I know they are trying to make it easier for us, but I would honestly rather go in the afternoon and wait longer than go in the morning, and then hit worse rush hour traffic once I leave.

They just called me too! I don't know how I feel yet. Does this mean dr.b won't be doing the sono? I am already nervous that the increase in femara and gonal f isn't going to work! Just femara didn't get me anywhere last month :(

Oh, I don't like those hours either. I work til at least 4 and usually get a 4:15/4:30 appointment. Is this just for monitoring or CD3 and IUI too? If it's just monitoring, I guess I could deal with 7:45/8:00 and going to work later, but for all 4 appointments, I don't know.Chat Icon

ETA, are they just doing the sonos and he will be in the office somewhere in case they arent sure about something? I'm sure they know what they are doing and other offcies have the nurses do monitoring, but would feel more comfortable if he was there in case of an issue.

I asked if the iui's can still be done late in the day and she said yes. I think it's only monitoring cd3 and the days before the iui so you should be ok!

I'm confused, does this mean you only see dr.b now for a consultation or iui? For ivf all u do is monitoring. Does this mean ivf people just won't see him?

I was wondering that myself, not so much in regard to IVF, since I'm not there yet, but in regard to CD3. I never meet with him between a BFN and CD3 to formally discuss the plan for the next cycle. We discuss it when I'm there for CD3. Now how will that be determined? (Of course, I could just think positively that I won't need another cycle...).

You know, I didn't ask, b/c I was just focused on how early I could get in there and then get to work.

This is causing me so much anxiety. If their hours started at 6:30-7, I'd be fine, and if I could still get monitored in the afternoon if needed, I'd be fine, but this new plan is going to cause me to hit soooo much traffic on the NSP getting to work, that I'll be even later and start missing my sessions with the kids.

im wondering if hes going to start being one of those doctors that pops into your room after the sono for a quick chat to go over protocol or to see anything important. i cant imagine you wouldnt see him at all. if that was the case id bet he'd lose a lot of patients.

As long as I didn't have to wait a half hr extra in the room for him to come give me the protocol, I might not mind as much. Just as long as he's still making the decisions. We shall see what happens when I actually go though.

i emailed dr. B cause im crazy like that.
he said he will be doing the monitoring during his normal hours, and Sandra/Linda will do the early morning hours when he is not in the office. they did this because of the high demand for early morning monitoring.

Interesting, b/c Margaret told me that they were not doing monitoring in the afternoon anymore, and she didn't let me keep my 4:00 appointment for Monday. Chat Icon

well i didnt ask about afternoons - i just asked who was doing the monitoring. so if you are there in the morning for monitoring and he is there - he will still do it. if you are there early before he is there, then the girls will do it and i assume he will get back to you later in the day if there are changes to your protocol (the same way that it used to work if you were monitored at AFS). otherwise i have no idea how they are doing scheduling.

Honestly girls, i think it it totally OK if a nurse or a trained tech does u/s for monitoring. This is how it has been for me at AFS and Batzofin office now. Moreover, at Batzofin's office, a PA does IUIs, not Dr. I was first upset about it, but PA was great and she seemed to know where to put catheter inChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: New monitoring hours at Dr. B's.

not a Dr. B patient, honestly just reading this thread b/c I am bored....but I go to RSofNY and the sono techs do your sonogram & if everything is good, you don't even see a doctor. You see the PA and they tell you what to do and send you on your way.

The only time I see a doctor is to discuss increasing meds, different meds, etc.

That's good to know for the future. I wish Margaret had given me the option of a 3:30 instead of offering me 8 am. I would have rather left work half an hour early than get there late. Oh well.

As far as the nurses doing the sonos, I'm pretty okay with that. Sandra always gives me more info than Dr. B anyhow. One of the things I always liked about Dr. B's office though, is that I always got to see him. It made his practice a little different from others.

I guess we'll all see how it works out. It always takes some time to adjust to change!

Re: New monitoring hours at Dr. B's.

That sort of sucks for me too. I can go early with my 2 year old that I watch however I have to be out my 11 to get his sister and I really don't want to bring him. I like my afternoon appointments. I do feel that I get more info from Sandra and Linda. I like them both and feel comfortable with both of them. I just hope they keep some sort of afternoon monitoring hours and if I go in the morning get me in and out.
