New On This Board And Seeking Some Information On IVF
Hi Everyone,
I have just recently began going to East Coast Fertility to see Dr. Pena about mine and DH's fertility problems. I though I had the problem and as it turns out I am fine. Low and behold my DH has a VERY low sperm count. With this, we were told the only way to go is ICSI-IVF. We've had out consult at East Coast, DH went to a Urologist, and we're about to go to our IVF informational session.
For all who have been through ICSI w/IVF or just IVF. Can you describe what the process is like from beginnig to end? I am so confussed about it. I am a teacher in the city (and live out east on LI) and have no idea how I am going to go in during the cycle almost every morning between 7-8 AM for monitoring. How long should I expect to be there? Is there a long wait and I should arrive at 6:30 AM? Will there be one day that the tests/sono's show that its the time to start and I will be told you must stay here and not go to work. Call your husband to come here. I just don't get it all.
I know this is A LOT to ask, but if anyone has the compassion and PATIENCE to write me, even via FM'ing me I'd truly appreciate it! I need some friends here to help me on my way!!
Thanks, Keri

it is a very time consuming procedure. It will require at leat 3 days of bedrests, and depending on your clinic those morning appts can take a while.
Basically there is a month or so of nothing much while they suppress you, then a week or too of frequent visits and injections to stimulate your ovaries, then retreival, 3 or 5 days later transfer, and then 2 LOOOONNNGGGGG weeks before your bloodtest. The last 2 IMO are the hardest. The middle 2 weeks interfere the most with your job.
Good luck to you

Pauline just covered it! I too agree that the 2ww is the worst - feel more like 2 months if you ask me. Also towards the end of the stimulation drugs they may have you go in every day for blood & sonogram. Good luck

Thanks everyone who responded! It's helping!
I just don't know how to approach this all to my Principal. I need to exactly explain it all in detail so she can cover my Pre-K class when need be. God, it's stressful! I guess I won't know from one appointment to the next if I will have to go to work late that next day!

Your best bet is to be upfront about it right away. There is a lot of time spent at the Drs. office and depending on the clinic, those waits can be very long or very quick. I don't know how East Coasts waits are, but I did find it easier to just tell my boss everything right away.

I told my principal right away and she was very supportive. I also wrangled a few other teachers to help with the coverages (so that it would be less stressful for the APs) and people were really supportive and understanding!

Re: New On This Board And Seeking Some Information On IVF
Welcome, wish you and your dh the best of luck!!!I need to tell you to get a second opinion ..I went to east coast 4 years ago and got pregnant the first time..I went back 2,years later to try again.I was very unhappy with the practice..I will not go back to them ever again they are not what they use to be. You will be treated like cattle..and I didn't get pregnant, they could care less, and they took all my money with no problem...please do alittle bit more research..I wish you the best if you need to ask me any questions you can write me back

You have FM...
ETA: I would definitely tell the principal about your situation. They will be more understanding, for sure.

I was amazed at the response from my boss (I'm not in teaching) but its better that they know than wonder and come to the wrong conclusion
