NEW opk question
Does it really honestly matter when you test, as long as you test at the same time everyday? The box says to test first thing in the am. I tested the first day as per the box in the am and saw a faint line (it was only CD5 but I am trying to figure things out). For the past two days, I have been testing in the late afternoon and I don't really see much of anything. Normal or no?

Re: NEW opk question
Everything I have read says that the OPK is testing for the LH hormone that signifies ovulation is coming soon and that LH is most present in your urine 4-6 hours AFTER you wake up AND that you have to not have peed at least 4 hours before you test.
With that in mind, I would test mid day - evening, making sure you held your pee for at least 4 hours.
I also read that it doesn't matter how light or dark the test line is if it isn't positive - because the amount of LH in your urine will vary day to day - the important thing is to see if there is a surge (a +) meaning that you will be ovulating soon.

i completely agree with this. i don't know why OPKs say to test in the AM - it's always better to test in the afternoon.

Re: NEW opk question
Actually when I was seeing my RE and was doing my first IUI cycle, I was told to test twice a day. Once when i first woke up with FMU and then again around 6ish ,after holding my urine for at least 4 hrs.
I actually got my first smiley with FMU then again later in the afternoon and the next morning.

Re: NEW opk question
Yah i dont know what is going on but I tested again this AM (FMU) and again got a faint line. When I tested the past 2 days in the afternoon, I got no line at all, even the control line was super faint. I am going to go with my gut and test in the AM (FMU) this month. We will see what happens. I'll think of it as an experiement Perhaps my body likes to metabolize hormones best when I sleep

Re: NEW opk question
The line will fade in & out: it's normal. you'll see the difference when it's positive.
I test in the morning. When I tested twice a day, I'd always get the first positive the the AM. (but this may be just my experience)...plus it's a lot easier to do it consistently for me like that.

Re: NEW opk question
I tested FMU yesterday and got a +OPK. Then I tested around 6 pm and got - OPK.
Then tested this am and +OPK plus O pains. I think FMU is more sensitive and will warn you ahead of time. That's my feeling on it.

Re: NEW opk question
I just wanted to add that I read that you should not drink anything at least 2 hours before you test. Last month was my first month with the OPK, and the first couple of days I had a faint line, (regardless of the time of day - I tested a couple of times a day b/c I am a bit compulsive ) and then on the 3rd or 4th day of testing, I get a dark and definite second line!
