New to this board w/breastfeeding question

Hi everyone, I just had a beautiful baby girl on Wednesday, June 3rd and have a question about night time breastfeeding. How often did you feed them at night time? Did you wake them up every 3 hours to breast feed or did you let them wake up on their own and want to feed. TIA Chat Icon

I ALWAYS let DS sleep once he was cleared of his jaundice. If there is no medical reason to feed them instead of letting them`sleep....Im of the mind to never wake a sleeping baby. DS was up on his own at 12:30, 3;30 and 6:30, up for the day at 9ish.

First off conrats!!!! June 3rd is my birthday tooChat Icon

As long as their is no medical concern such as jaundice, significant weigh loss or low weight gain then follow your baby's' cues and feed on demand.

This being said, a newborn who is EBF under a month should not really do more then 1 four hour stretch without eating.
SOme babies are super sleepy in teh begining and need to be woken up or they will got 4-5 hours a few times a day without nursing and that isn't good because they won't consume enough calories which will make them even sleepier and they will wake to feed less.... We had this issue Chat Icon

As long as on average you are nursing every 2-3 hours with a few 3-4 hour stretches here and there you should be good!!!

CONGRATS!!!

I NEVER woke DS up to eat. He went anywhere from 3-4 hours between feedings. I always fed on demand.

Congrats!!

Re: New to this board w/breastfeeding question

I never woke DS up at night. I let him wake me up, which was about every 2-3hrs.
I watched a Breast Feeding video and the women said to never let a baby go more then 2-3hrs without eating during the day, but to let the baby tell you when they are hungry during the night.
