New toddler related challenges?
Ugh!!! DD's 23 months old and we're having all sorts of new issues. Right now the issue is napping. It seems she needs to be the boss if everything -- including when she'll nap. Yesterday that was 3:45-6. That makes going to bed at 8:30 pretty tough. Right now she's screaming & crying as I try to show her who's boss (me.) It's breaking my heart, but I know that she really needs this nap. And mommy needs a break too. DH is away all week and I can't handle her staying up until 9:30 every night.
Fellow toddler moms, is this normal? Will I ever get her back on track (her usual 1-1:30 nap and 8-8:30 bedtime)?
Help!! Any advice???

Re: New toddler related challenges?
Have you tried NOT giving her a nap? Ava hasn't napped in ages and she's 28 months. I'd say since she was 18 months old, she's consistently not napped. If she does happen to fall asleep, she's awake till 11pm She might be trying to tell you she's ready for a change, only she doesn't realize what that change is. I think that sleeping that late in the afternoon is not a good habit to get into, but if she does, let her sleep for a half hour power nap adn then get her up. A lot of things have changed for us since Ava turned two, we've kind of just gone with the flow and it's been going well. Good luck!

i think she still needs the nap. Today I may have missed the "window." She probably needed to go down earlier, but we had to take DH to get his rental car. I'll give her a few more minutes, then get her and try skipping the nap today. Then I'll just do bedtime earlier. Yesterday DH was home with her. Before I went out we tried to get her to go down, same thing with the crying only worse, she had a dirty diaper so we got her up. We thought there'd be no nap. I went out. Dh said that at 3:45 she was telling him that it was "night-night" time. I know 3:45 is much too late, but if we keep her up, then she's a grouchy bear by dinner.
Ugh!!! I'll work on getting back to an earlier nap schedule this week. hopefully it will work.
eta: so much for showering while she naps. And I guess I get no break today. What a great way to start off my week alone.

Re: New toddler related challenges?
Every few months we have a week or two of "off" sleeping. She'll skip naps or not fall asleep for an hour in her crib at night. I think it's normal. But I try very hard to not miss her "window" for naps, and even if she doesn't fall asleep, she stays in that crib for an hour. If she won't fall asleep at all, I take her out after the hour and just put her to bed 20 minutes earlier that night.
Good luck!

Re: New toddler related challenges?
She still might be transitioning to no naps, even if she's totally cranky by the evening. We had a month or so of crankiness before she really adjusted to no nap. She honestly did not need it. Now, she relaxes on the floor with a pillow and watches tv, so she gives herself some down time. As hard as it is, try to go with the flow. It's hard when it's not clear cut what's going on with them.

Ugh!!! No nap???!?!?!?!? I am so not ready for that. Last night she went to bed at 8:15 after no nap and was a huge crank by dinner time. Now it looks like we may not get a nap today either. Maybe you're right, Rach, and she is done with naps. I feel like a bad mom for saying this, but I really don't know if I can handle Lily all week all day with no break. DH is away until Friday so I won't get any break until she goes to bed. Maybe I'm just not cut out for this SAHM thing after all.
ETA: Today we had a good shopping trip to Old Navy, then I stopped for cards at Walgreen's where she had a meltdown when it was time to put the basket she was carrying back, as we were leaving. I had to carry her out screaming -- lovely. This is why I say I can't handle this on my own all week. Oh, I really need some patience and extra strength this week. Hopefully I'll find it somewhere.
