New weight watchers plan
starting 12/7, the w.w. plan will be changing
The new Momentum™ program arrives at your Weight Watchers meeting on Sunday, December 7, 2008. This new plan combines the latest in scientific research with successful aspects of previous Weight Watchers food plans. It was created to help you stay in control of your eating habits while teaching you how to eat smarter and stay fuller. With greater satisfaction and the ability to build a plan that fits into your own life, you will be more likely to succeed.
After years of research, the answer to lasting weight loss continues to be the same. You must burn more calories than you take in; in other words, eat fewer calories and exercise more. Sounds familiar and should be simple, right? Unfortunately hunger, temptation and emotions can make it difficult to stick with a plan. The Momentum plan is designed to teach you the fundamentals of weight loss and help you continue your efforts as you get to goal and beyond. The Momentum plan aims to help you make food choices that keep you satisfied, while staying aware of those choices through tracking. Relying on the POINTS® Weight-Loss System, you will be able to evaluate the weight-loss impact of your food choices. Understanding the Filling Foods and how they work will help you make smarter food choices that satisfy. Following the Good Health Guidelines, outlined in your Week 1 booklet, will ensure that you meet your body’s nutritional needs, while using the weekly POINTS Allowance will keep feelings of deprivation away. Visit our Using the Site section under "Your Plan" to learn more about the online tools and how they’ll be able to help you with this new plan.
For those who have followed Weight Watchers in the past, you will notice that we no longer have two food plans to choose from. We have combined many of the best aspects of our previous plans to create a single, great plan. A stronghold of the Momentum plan is that the awareness you get from tracking what you eat and drink puts you in better control. But we understand that tracking is not for all people, and have therefore created an alternative way of following the Plan. Talk to your Leader to teach you about our Simply Filling technique. Core Plan® followers can get more information here.
If you feel ready to jump in, prepare to stay for a few minutes at the end of your next meeting for a Getting Started session. There you will learn all of the fundamentals and receive your new plan materials. Your Leader will be a resource, helping you get up to speed on all the exciting changes. The materials include invaluable tips, strategies and even meal plans for your first few days on plan. Review them carefully for all the basics. Log onto eTools to make use of all of your interactive tools, read informative articles, find Meal Ideas and browse Community tips.
With over 45 years of experience on our side, we look forward to helping you lose weight. The Momentum plan was created to help you feel satisfied so you can stick with it longer. This new plan promises to help you build healthier eating habits, while you lose. Congratulations for making a great choice.

It's kind of Core plus Flex.
You get X # of points for the day and your WP too. You can choose to 'set' certain core foods or accept the number for a portion. For example - 3 pts for a 3oz serving of chicken breast OR 5 points for an 'unlimited' portion. It's meant so that you can use your points on more 'nutritious' foods.

Yeah I didn't get anything different either with the exception of "tracking hunger" at the bottom of your tracker and eating more filling foods and making better choices. I was kind of dissappointed in all the "hype" unless I am missing something?

This part of it wasn't really explained to us at all. everyone kept saying...what's the # in ( ) and she kept saying don't worry about that until week 5. All I really got from it was that it's basically the same program but they're pushing the core "filling" foods. Eating a full meal of filling foods vs. a non-filling snack for the same amount of points.

No everything has to be counted. Selecting filling foods will keep you fuller longer.

No everything has to be counted. Selecting filling foods will keep you fuller longer.
Now I am confused? My leader (who regularly confuses me) told me that some of the filling foods can be eaten in 'unlimited' quantities for a set point value. For example.. I can have 1 pear for 1 point - OR I can choose to set my points at 2 and have 10 pears for 2 points. She said that as long as you doing get abusive (vague) - you can eat as much as you want with a set point value. It isn't ALL filling foods - but there are some veggies and lean meats that can have a set point value... am I wrong about this? If I am wrong - which is MORE than possible - what are the set points for?
Help!

I don't think your leader should have said that. The set points concept is not being introduced until a few weeks into the program. That is more for the die-hard corbies.
For now just take a deep breath, relax! Count your points as you normally do and try as much as possible to use your daily points on filling goods and your flex points for other foods.
