Newbie with Questions....
Hi there! I'm new to boards....have a question maybe someone can help with:
Has anyone had irregular/painful AF since first menses, corrected with BCP (11+years for me!)....and waiting mths to find no predicable cycle after stopping?
It may seem premature, but DH and I are TTC for ~5mths and I haven't seen AF since January 8th. OB-GYN said wait 3 more mths and see RE.
Does that seem rushed to you? Has anyone seen RE after 6mths of irregularity? I'm just panicking because AF has always been a mess for me. Perhaps I was never diagnosed for something that was easily corrected/covered-up with the BCP??

Re: Newbie with Questions....
Welcome to the Boards!I hope your stay is short.
To answer your question, maybe your doctor wants to wait to see a RE b/c of your age. Usually women who are over 30 see a RE after 6 mos. of ttc and if you are under 30 usually, they wait a year to see a RE.
But, in my opinion, if you haven't had AF in 5 months, I wouldn't wait to see a RE. A RE is an OBGYN with specialized training. I finally got answers when I went to see a RE. If I were in your shoes, I would want to know why I am not having my AF.
As for the painful/irregular AF, it could be anything from PCOS, fibroids, Thryoid issues to endometriosis.
Usually, You don't need a referral to see a RE. Most insurance will cover the minimum office visits, bloodwork and some diagnostic testing. The only thing my insurance didn't cover was IVF/IUI's.
Has the doctor diagnosed you?
I hope this helps. Good Luck!!

Re: Newbie with Questions....
I guess I found the Doc's advice rushed because I'm not over 30yr old..... but he said that irregularity for 6mths is justification for seeing an RE.
Any suggestions for who to see?
I know a few people that have seen Kennisberg(spelling?)/Droesch and have been very disappointed.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Newbie with Questions....
There are a few clinics on LI that you could go to. There is Co NSUH, LI-IVF, and East Coast just off the top of my head. There is good and bad feedback for most of them. You should probably speak to either your OB-GYN for a referral or pick a few brains as to why people liked or disliked a certain RE, a lot of people will just dislike an RE cuz they didn't get PG, whereas there are some places where you will get more specific complaints such as inconvenient hours, Drs. attitudes, poor scheduling, etc. OH and by the way, welcome and I hope your stay here is short!!!

Re: Newbie with Questions....
I have irregular cycles since I was a teenager, I never did anything about it until 4 years ago. My obgyn diagnosed me with PCOS and prescribed BCP which regulated me but once I stopped the bcp my cycles became irregular. This is when I started to see an RE. I would definitely see an RE if your cycles are irregular. Good luck
