?: Newborn Photo Session
I live out of state and wanted to get an idea for pricing. I've been in touch with 3 different photographers here, only heard back from one of them so far. The one I did speak to charges $125 for the session (she said the session usually lasts about 2 hours) and all that includes is one 'storyboard' photo. I would never be able to get the pictures on a disk for myself. Any print orders would have to be made through her. Is this common place?? I know for my wedding photos I ended up getting all my photos on a high-res disc. So I'd basically be paying $125 for her to take pictures of . I'm still waiting to hear back from the other two photographers, so I'm not sure yet what their packages include. What have you ladies been quoted as far as pricing is concerned?? (you can always FM me if you dont want to post)
TIA!

Re: ?: Newborn Photo Session
I would not use that photographer
I live in Charlotte and I am having someone come to my home when Kevin is 7-10 days old and take pics. She will spend as much time as needed, edit the pics to take out inperfections, etc and give me the cd with all the pics with no copyrights (I can print and share at will) for $100

Re: ?: Newborn Photo Session
I don't know what the prices are up to for the photographers on this site but I can tell you that most professional photographer will charge you a session fee and a per print price. You will get less prints - maybe 30-40 - but better quality both in the photograph itself & in the prints - even the paper is professional quality. They know photoshop & will "fix" what needs to get done - that includes a B&W conversion, skin softening, eye sharpening, making the color pop out (and I am NOT talking about just kicking up the saturation, which is a mistake many PS novices - including myself make). Their B&W conversions aren't going to be a gross grayscale photo, where everything looks flat.
There are plenty of people with DSLRs that can take a good photo. Some people that have a knack & a decent camera that will charge you less money & give you 100+ prints - of which you will get a 10-20 that you like. I know because I am that person like that - excpept that I am not running a business. In the photography field, I am known as a "Mom with a camera" also referred to a "guy with a camera". We are amateur photographers. Some are good; some are not
From the session you are quoting, I can venture a guess as to which vendor it is - and in my opinon, she's excellent. She has a good background in photography & is creative. She is not a mom with a camera. She is a photgrapher who happens to be a mom also. In my opinion, you get what you pay for - and it is worth every penny.
I've subscribed to a number of photography forums & there are a lot of amateurs trying to run a business. Don't scrimp on a newborn session. You have 10 days to get that newborn look & those poses that people on here are posting. Once that baby gets better headcontrol, more muscle strength, & sleeps less, those poses are gone.
Feel free to FM me any questions.
