Newborn Sleep Question
DS is 3 wks old and has been a good sleeper (doing 5 hour stretches at night) since we brought him home. He also had long awake periods though (4-5 hours some days) Last week he started having some fussy periods going down for the night and the only night he didnt was the night my mom watched him and he pretty much slept ALL day long so I'm thinking the fussiness must have been fatigue. So I've started putting him down when he looks tired (trying to follow the signs I read in Healthy Sleep Habit, Happy Child - yawning, zoning out etc). This seems to be an hour after waking every time but then I put him in his bassinet and he stares at the video monitor for 30-60 minutes before falling asleep. How do I know when to put him down to sleep? I dont want to put him in too early because if he wants to be awake, I'd rather have him out of the bassinet to stimulate him etc. but I just cant tell. I've done this the past couple of days (and it has cut down the fussiness) but I miss him because it feels like he's ALWAYS in his bassinet

Re: Newborn Sleep Question
If he is not fussy in the bassinette and is just kind of hanging out, then I would let him be. Sometimes baby's need "down time" too. Or you could move the bassinette to where you are so that you can talk to him and sing to him while he hangs out!
