Newborn Sleep Schedule
My DS is just a week old, but is sleeping for hours at a time during the day... and is awake at night. I can't put him down.
Should I be waking him up to eat or something so that he gets on less of a nocturnal schedule?

Re: Newborn Sleep Schedule
It's very common for newborns to have their days and nights confused. Try to keep him up during the day and around light so he gets used to being awake during the day - not night.
Congratulations!

Yes, even if the baby is sleeping make sure it is nice and bright and dark at night.

Re: Newborn Sleep Schedule
Our ped said, during hte day keep it bright and "noisy" (tv on, vaccum etc) wake them up eery 3-4 hours to eat, and lots of eye contact when awake. Also take their clothes off (the LC recommended this to wake a baby who sleeps during nursing)
Then after say 9pm, low lights, less noise, less eye contact, and dont wake him/her, let DC wake when hungry.
ETA: DS didnt have his days/nights confused in the beginning but for the first 2 weeks ALL he did was sleep! My BFs daughter would sleep all day and be up all night and her ped told her that they generally correct themselves between 4-6 weeks
