Newborn straight into crib??

Do you think its a horrible thing to put your baby straight into a crib when its first born? The baby and crib will be in our room and I just dont see using a bassinet when the baby will be right there anyway. My mom is all mad at me because I am not taking her suggestion to use a bassinet, she claims a crib is too big of a space to have a newborn in. I understand what shes saying but shes not seeing my point of view at all. What do you think?

I don't see anything wrong with it. Our little guys slept in their pack n' plays.

Re: Newborn straight into crib??

I think the point of a bassinet is to have them in the room with you, so I don't see the big deal.
Her crib is in our room but we used a bassinet anyway but I don't think it would have made a difference, since she refused to sleep in her bassinet after 3 weeks old anyway!

I have seen on a baby story people use the bumper to make the crib half the size so the space seems smaller to them.

Sarah was in her crib from day 1 and we had no problems. My pediatrician told me that all 3 of his kids went into their crib right away.

Re: Newborn straight into crib??

We wanted to do that and we tried, but he didn't want to have anything to do with it. So, I ended up sleeping on the couch for 1 month while he slept in his bouncer with the vibrating on and then for the 2nd month he slept in his bassinet in the pack n play and then he went in his crib. Hopefully you'll have better luck. I was the type of mommy who didn't want the baby in bed with us. Good luck!

As long as you don't mind walking in the middle of the night, I'd say save your money.

I do have to say, the steps from the nursery to your bed will never seem longer than the first night your baby stays there. We felt he was too far away.Chat Icon

So true. I spent half the night in the glider just watching her sleep. Chat Icon

Re: Newborn straight into crib??

We used the crib in his own room (next to ours) from day one.

But many initial nights he spent sleeping on my chest!

My daughter HATED the bassinet. You never know, luckily it was a hand-me-down so we didn't waste the $. She loves to sleep in the pack-n-play and we put in right next to the bed in the beginning. It was comforting to me as a new mom.Chat Icon

I thought that I'd go crazy if Christopher wasn't in the room with me, but honestly, with baby #2, I think we'll be going straight into the crib.

Ryan has been in his crib from day one. He slept in his room too. His room is right next to ours. No problems here.

Wow, I could have written what you posted when Ryan was first born. I was against the idea of a bassinet from the beginning because for us, the crib made more sense to start with, so there would be no transitioning. My MIL wanted us to get a bassinet and said that every baby needs to be right next to you in the beginning. Well, she bought us one, and Ryan HATED it. He was in it one night and cried the entire time. using the crib from the beginning worked really really well for us and Ryan never had any problems sleeping.
