Newcomer questions ! - UPDATE 12/14
Hi everyone- I've been reading all the posts and am happy that I found this board because everyone seems so knowledgable and friendly ... To introduce myself, I am 33- Conceived my son via clomid 150mg./IUI after 3 attempts with an RE- (Wasted 8 months on clomid alone with no monitoring with my Gyn errrrr.....) We are now trying for a second....Recently had my 3rd unsuccessful IUI on 200mg Clomid...Dr. is willing to go to 4 before IVF (doctor does not want me on injectibles for fear of over stimulation/multiples....Unexplained fertility- possible mild PCOS....This is my newest and STRANGEST situation...Went on CD 3 for sono/blood and was called by nurse saying not to start Clomid- I may be OVULATING !...Estrogen elevated and 25mm follicle...Go on day 4 to see if estrogen rises to rule out cyst and it does and follicle is a 28mm ! Did trigger today and IUI tomorrow- I am so confused- How can I be ovulating during my AF ??????...Anyone ever hear of this ??? Thanks guys and nice to be aboard
12/14- Well I went for my 7DPO bloodwork to double confirm that I ovualted and that this wasnt just a cyst- And they confirmed- I did ovulate ....Now for my questions LOL-They said my Progesterone was 11 and the Estrace was in the 180's Nurse said the #'s are great- Any opinions on these #'s would be great !

Re: Newcomer questions !
sounds like a cyst to me...
did they say that b/c your estrogen rose that its not a cyst?
I thought that cysts produce estrogen as well...

Re: Newcomer questions !
Thanks for the replies guys.....The reason they suspect this is an egg and not a cyst is because they say it is "behaving" like an egg due to the drastic rises in estrogen and the way it is growing, however the doctor said it may be a cyst but they thought it would not hurt to do an insemination, better to try than not....This has been all strange to me, because #1- I do not ovulate without Clomid and if this IS an egg, I did and #2 I have never gotten a cyst before this ( in addition to this follicle(?) they also see another structure they believe is a cyst due to its shape....They did the IUI today, DH's count was good (50mill) and also took blood to see if estrogen is still rising and progestreone check- I will be returning next Friday for another blood check to see if I did indeed ovulate (progesterone I assume ???)...I'm not overly hopeful, things seem just way too out of whack this month, even though both doctors said pregnancies do occur under these circumstances...I guess we'll wait and see what they say today about my bloodwork.....

Re: Newcomer questions !
Thanks !....The nurse just called and said that my bloodwork shows that I did indeed ovulate- I asked how they know and she said the progesterone count tells them...I will still go back next Friday for more blood.....I am so baffled that this is happening- I have always been very text-book- In the past I pretty much always responded "normally" to the clomid- except for the fact that 2 out of the past 4 cycles I was unresponsive, but this is just plain bizarre.I asked the dr.if there were any risk giventhe situation and they said the only risk is that you could go through it and not conceive- Everything else is the same risk factor as any other IUI....which was somewhat reassuring ( I was concerned about higher rate of miscarriage , birth defects etc....)...The dr. did say my chances this month were slightly decreased because of the timing so I guess we'll wait and see- I have a feeling IVF is closer that I think - but in the meantime I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Christmas miracle : to all !!!

Re: Newcomer questions !
Oops....another quick question for you ladies ......My "follicle" was a 28 yesterday and today was the IUI....Has anyone ever had a follicle that large before ?...Mine are normally in the 21-26 range and from what Im told they grow 2mm a day so that would have made it a 30 today...Hmmmmmm...(yet another reason I would have thought this was a cyst- guess I need to have faith in the Dr.'s

Re: Newcomer questions !
I would believe its a cyst.....Thats a little off to me to think you might be ovulating?
Also, my fear was multiples , unexplained IF at first....The first clinic I went to didnt want to do more then 3 iuis and NO INJECTABLES.
Well turns out we had 13 iuis and I did not get PG till IVF..
Further ( much further) testing showed many IF factors and issues that the first clinic failed to see...A follie growing that fast would be a red flag to me...
So my advice is based on your post, do some research and maybe have more testing before giving up IUIS to go to IVF.
IUI injectable cycles are a very good indicator of how you will react to IVF IMO and I think its a good thing in many cases to give it a try based on diagnosis of course.
I would also go for a 2nd opinion before IVF.

Re: Newcomer questions !
Thanks .....I also was considering going to another RE to get a second opinion on whats going on- I get too comfortable with things, thats my problem....I'm hoping that if this doesn't take (and I have my doubts) , that my next cycle will go back to the way it was before and I can give IUI another whirl before we go to IVF....They are adament about me not doing the injectables- but I plan on consulting again about that before I take the next step....These next 2 weeks can't go fast enough for me !
