Newly pregnant & a bit overwhelmed

The reality if finally starting to kick in and part of me feels so ovewhelmed like where do I even begin?

I have so many questions and wonder what the first dr. appt. brings & it feels strange not seeing my dr. until the 10 week (what they suggested at my prenatal visit) and am curious about continuing my exercise routine and question what/if any medicine I can take.....

Where's a good place to look for answers, besides this wonderful board? Do you girls find any other websites useful?

Thank you

babycenter.com has a lot of great info, also don't be afraid to call your doctor, that's what they are there for.

Re: Newly pregnant & a bit overwhelmed

I loved Your Pregnancy Week By Week. I found what to expect to be condescending and there is NO way I could eat the way they suggest to eat.

Excercise....you can keep up your routine as long as it's not overly strenous.

The only old wives tale I follow is no heavy lifting. I did with my first PG and I ended up m/c a missed pregnancy (a sac but no fetus). My 2nd PG I did not lift anything heavy.

I hate waiting for the 1st appt also, but it's to ensure they see a heartbeat and the fetus is big enough to measure and date the pregnancy. You can take any over the counter prenatals that have 800 mcg of folic acid (I got mine at Walmart and they say Prenatal on them)

Medicine: Tylenol only. As far as other medicines, I'm not sure since I never had a need to take. Tums are good too.

The first appt is a sonogram (an internal, so be ready for an invasion!) and the dr visit is just going over expected weight gain, signs of trouble, medicines you can take, a RX for prenatals (ask for samples every visit-it's GREAT) and any questions you may have.

But most important....make sure you feel comfortable with your Dr/practice. The bedside manner is VERY important!

Good Luck and Congrats!

Yes, according to my NP, this early in the PG they do an internal to get the best possible view. It was the only way we could see the heartbeat so early (just at 6 weeks).

Re: Newly pregnant & a bit overwhelmed

I had my first sono at just under 8 weeks and it was not internal - I saw the hearbeat just fine. My second at 10 weeks was also not internal - I saw everything, including the baby waving it's arms & legs!

Good to know. I was concerned because they scheduled my first sono for next week, when I'll be one day shy of 7 weeks, and was worried it would be too early to see the heartbeat. I guess this is probably what they plan to do.

Was your DH in the room for this? I picture mine freaking if it's an internal sono! He'll come, but I'm sure it's a little weird for the guys, no? Chat Icon

My DH was there for my internal, he was so concerned with seeing the baby, I do not even think he realized what was going on with me Chat Icon

Dh was there, but after bearing witness to the pelvic the week before it was nothing. Although he laughed when he saw the "wand" they use for the internal & then laughed even harder when they put the "rubber" on it.

He was in complete awe when he saw the heartbeat though & it was all worth itChat Icon

Re: Newly pregnant & a bit overwhelmed

Not to sound like a cheeseball, but this site is the best place for me to get info! It's real advise from real women who go through this stuff and some at the same time as me. Nobody sugar-coats their responses, so it's easy to beleive them and understand.
I also do like the book "Pregnancy Week by Week". There are a lot of great sections to it. My DH reads that book all the time! We also got the "Pregnancy Bible" which has great references.
Relax and enjoy it. Sometimes you will see answers posted on this board before you know to ask it. I felt the EXACT same way when I was first preggo and this has given me a huge peace of mind!
