(PEOPLE.com) -- Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo have babies on the mind.
"We definitely want to do together and do it sooner rather than later," Lachey says of having kids. "I'll be 38 this year, so it's one of those things that I'm certainly behind the eight-ball on."
"Not that getting married was the means to an end to have kids," he continues, "but it certainly was the next step in the process that leads us to ultimately having a great family together."
The date of their upcoming nuptials is still top secret, but the wedding, which Lachey promises will be "memorable," will be taped for a TLC special.
The decision to allow cameras to film didn't come without serious thought, especially since Lachey has previously starred in reality TV, which he says he would never do again.
"This is very different than doing a reality series. It's a one-off special," he says. "This is a different process. There's a beginning and there's and end, and it's over."
Before the wedding, Lachey celebrated a final rite-of-passage, celebrating his bachelor party at Tao Las Vegas and Tao Beach over the weekend.
With his group of 30, the singer played it cool, socially drinking and laughing as his friends continuously toasted him. After the party, though, he wants the attention off of him.
"It's important to me -- and remains important to me -- that this is her day, and I want her to experience everything that being a bride is and can be," he says of Minnillo. "And so I want this to be everything she dreamt it would be and more and I've tried to make that happen for her and for us."
Lachey continues: "Weddings are a very, very, very intimate and special thing, and I want it to be what she wants it to be. I've tried to work hard to make it that."
