Night Terrors?
When do these start? Sarah woke up screaming, like she was terrified of something last night. I'd calm her down, I'd put her in her crib and as soon as I walked out and shut the door the terrified screaming would start again. This went on for over an hour.
Nothing has changed in her room at all. We've never used a nightlight, so it's not like suddenly it went out and the shadows seemed weird.
We just wanted to make sure this was something other kids go through, or if it's something we need to talk to her doctor about. Thanks.

Re: Night Terrors?
Ryan had them around 18 months. They are horrible. Sarah's doesnt sound like it because in a night terror they are truly inconsolable. The more you try to hold them the more they fight you. There was nothing we could do until it ended. We literally would just put him on the floor and he would roll back and forth from front to back hitting and kicking the floor. Sometimes standing and then throwing himself on the floor. All the while screaming and I mean screaming. Totally asleep. Evetually I found that his favorite music (baby einstein) would bring him out of it. It is truly like they are possessed. I learned quickly that it happened when he was overtired and tried to make sure this didnt happen. He is 3 now and knock on wood it has been a while, I hope they are gone and I hope no one else has to go through this.

Re: Night Terrors?
I know I'm not a mom yet, but I do have a lot of experience with night terrors, and they are actually sometimes caused by food allergies. When I was little, I had the most horrible night terrors that are still clear as day to me now, and it ended up being from a peanut allergy. Supposedly, it is common for food allergies to manifest themselves in this way.

Thanks everyone. If it keeps up we'll call her doctor. It's just so horrible hearing her screaming. I couldn't sleep all night, I kept hearing it in my head everytime I started to fall asleep.

Re: Night Terrors?
another reason for night terrrors- mouth breathers are more prone to them - i had them every night growing up for years and only learned as an adult that had adnoid been taken out so ic ould breath i would not have had them -
check if she is a mouth breather - better to fix when younger because it also creates an under btie and expensive need for braces - and ear, nose and throat are best at diagnosing

Re: Night Terrors?
I'm not an expert but it definitely sounds like one of those things that comes with the age. You know the problems I've been having over here It's soo hard on the Mommies because it almost hurts us more than it does them.
I would check with the Ped. though and see what they can suggest
