Night terrors
Does anyone's child have this? Jesse's had two already and I wasn't sure what to do. From what I've read, you are just supposed to let it run it's course and it's not harmful. I just feel so useless - like I can't help. Anyone have any info? Thanks

Re: Night terrors
I thought Sarah was having night terrors about 2 months ago, but it turned out to be that she had several teeth coming in at the same time, 2 of which were molars, and she was just in a lot of pain.
Good luck, I hope it gets better for him soon! There's nothing worse than being woken up by that horrible screaming.

Re: Night terrors
How old is your son? They generally dont start really young but my son was getting them for awhile between 2 yrs old and 3. We just noticed a change the past month or two where we dont hear those horrible screams coming from his room at night. My DH would try to get my son to hug him so he could rouse him a bit but not shake him awake. It didnt always work though - its near impossible to wake him and sometimes the best thing was to just hold him. I found them harder to deal with than my DH because his body would be so rigid and he was inconsolable and I just wanted to comfort my baby. Im not sure if theres a "type" of kid who gets night terrors but he has always been very high energy and I felt like they occurred as a result of his body not being able to completely go into sleep mode. He gave up naps at a young age but I think he still needed them and would get overtired alot. HTH

Re: Night terrors
Thanks!
My son is the same way - goes non-stop and hates to nap. The two night terrors he had he was crying and wimpering and sobbing, but he was sleeping. I really couldn't wake him but we picked him up and he woke after about ten minutes, but he was so disoriented and scared. He was still crying and then screaming and it took a long time to calm him down. It's just heartbreaking. I wish I knew when they would stop - I think they can happen until about three years old???

Re: Night terrors
My sister did some posts on this about her DD who is 3. She would have some crazy night terrors, and my sister was feeling helpless about it. She couldnt control my niece when she would get one and it scared her. She doesnt get them that often now, but I know they are normal, and will go away.

Re: Night terrors
I know the 4 year old girl I used to babysit for used to get night terrors. I would lay down with her before bedtime & we would talk about a good dream she could have that night. That seemed to help a bit.

Miranda was having night terrors for a while. She wouldn't stop hyperventalating, and was absolutely hysterical. We started waking her up as soon as she started to have one, and have found that that helps. I'm know what you mean about it being heartbreaking, I used to get terrified when she would start one. This stage passes thankfully, hang in there

Re: Night terrors
I've read that it could be a food allergy. Have you started anything new in his diet lately?
Hope it gets better soon

Only thing new and consistent is whole milk! I hope it's not that.

My friend's DD had that problem and it seemed that it was, in fact, the milk. She was older though, like 6 or 7 when it started. I think she switched her to soy (it was a trial & error thing -- she would get them every single night).
Could you try skim milk (i don't know if that would make a difference, but I guess it can't hurt to try)? Hope it gets better
