Nights and days mixed up...

My new darling daughter loves to stay up at night and sleep all day. She is only 2 weeks old. This is fine for right now, I know she must be too young to start a routine, but how do I break this habit down the road?? I am going back to work in 3 weeks, and I will not be able to function staying up all night with her then work all day.
Any advice for a new mom?

Sarah did that and my doctor gave me some ideas to try and change her schedule, or said I could wait it out and by about 1 month or 5 weeks it would resolve itself.

His suggestions:
* Change her diaper frequently to wake her up.
* Talk to her a lot and loudly to keep her awake
* Change her clothes to wake her up
* Play with her (I read books loudly, there really isn't too much more you can do with them)
* Take a washcloth, wet it with lukewarm water and put it on her bare chest to really pi$$ her off and keep her awake.

Also, keep things loud and bright during the day and quiet and dark at night- no tv, etc.
Katie had this problem too and it pretty much resolved itself.

Thanks Ladies,

I have tried to keep her up during the day, but, like her mother, she is a subborn oneChat Icon When she wants to sleep, she sleeps...
I will try the other suggestions as well.
As always, thank you very much ladies!!!

Re: Nights and days mixed up...

Keep the room well lit during the day and try and talk to the baby and keep her up.
At night, make the room nice and dark. Good luck.
(My 2 year old is so noisy that her little sister doesn't get a lot of sleep during the day so she sleeps well at night.)

Re: Nights and days mixed up...

My son did the same for a while. I tried the lights and noise thing but for some reason he prefered to sleep in well lit rooms w/ lots of noise Chat Icon My pedi said sometimes the bright lights make them want to close their eyes Chat Icon I dunno. I know I'm contradicting what everyone said. I would try what pp suggested but if it doesn't work don't worry too much. It will be rough to go back to work w/ that schedule but eventually most babies figure it out and correct themselves.
