Nighttime potty training?
How old was your DC when they didn't wear a pullup or diaper during the night?

Re: Nighttime potty training?
DS was 3 DD (4YO) was 18 months my 2 yo isn't pottytrained.. has no desire whatsoever
I never did pull-ups though.. IMO, they confuse the child..I'd rather have the bed prepared for accidents (mattress protector, extra sheets and the mattress protector that goes on top of the bed)...i think they learn the concept of sensing that the pee/poo is coming if they feel it rather than using a glorified diaper (ie pull up) for it..
of course, this is solely my opinion..

Yeah, that's the problem- she is so used to wearing a pull-up at night (she is fully potty trained during the day) that I think it makes her lazy in a sense. Whenver I am putting her PJ's on, I always ask her if she has to go potty. Sometimes she says yes, sometimes no- but sometimes when she doesn't go on the potty, she will pee in her pull up like immediately after I put it on her! I've been prepping her for a few days that I wasn't going to buy anymore pull-ups. Last night was the first night with no pull up, and she did have an accident- but only 1x. She didn't even wake up though- I only noticed it in the morning. I just want to make sure that its ok and normal that I just stopped her like that with not wearing a pull-up!

Re: Nighttime potty training?
DS was 3. Once went to underwear during the day we did it at night too (per the doctor who we were working with on it). It freaked me out at first but I bought these sheet saver things from One Step Ahead and he shocked me by only having had maybe 2 accidents in the month since we did it.

Re: Nighttime potty training?
Thanks for posting this.
DS will be 4 in May and he is fully potty trained for daytime but pull-ups at night. I know I have to start the night training but I wasnt sure where to start.
I guess we should be prepared for accidents?

Re: Nighttime potty training?
DD has just been nighttime potty trained. she was wearing pull ups to bed. she woke up dry one morning but wanted to cuddle and ended up peeing in her pull up...that was the end of it for me. from 4pm is what i like to call liquid lockdown...she is allowed a certain amount to drink and that is it. right before bed she goes to the potty...even if she says she dosent have to she sits on it and tries. i check on her around 10-11pm before i go to bed and wake her up to try going potty again. thats it until morning...its been a month and shes had 3 accidents.
GL!
ETA: DD turned 3 the beg. of Jan. i also use what i call pee pee pads (ya im a dog owner!) i think they are meant for cribs or something but i just lay it down on top of her sheets and then i dont have to worry so much about the sheets!

You have to get rid of the pull up.. if they are trained during the day, they know what needs to be done but that pull up is messing them up..
It's PERFECTLY normal to have accidents.. my kids had them well after they were fully trained.. it's normal and it'll happen.. just make it easier on yourself and get those sheet saver protectors (I had 2) that I'd swap out if they had an accident in the middle of the night without having to change/wash a gazillion sheets in the middle of the night.

Its funny- pee pee pads for dogs had crossed my mind, but I didn't know if it would be uncomfortable for her to sleep on.

That's totally why I feel like the pull up makes her lazy! She very, very rarely has accidents during the day. I think she's had 1 accident in 2 months and it was during naptime at school.
Where do I get the sheet saver protectors? I have a waterproof mattress pad, but I'm guessing the sheet saver is different from that!

Yeah, it is. it's goes on top of the bed! so if she wets herself, you just swap it out for the new one (I always had 2 on hand)..
This is what I had and I bought it in Full size

DD dosent seem to have a problem...its not an actual pee pee pad...its like a quilted waterproof sheet thing but its a lot smaller than the one that you normally use to cover the mattress

Re: Nighttime potty training?
Thomas still wears a pull up at night and he's almost 4. I have to talk to the ped about it at his 4 year check up. At his 3 year check up, she said not to rush nighttime dryness. He's dry a few days a week and wet the rest. He would never go in his pull up while awake though.

Re: Nighttime potty training?
We're working on this too as I have the same issue with Michael. The key is to cut out liquids appx 2 hours before bed time, it helps a lot.

Does anyone know if they sell something like this a BRU?

Re: Nighttime potty training?
DD was about 4 and still wearing pull-ups and not waking up dry, so I thought she wasn't ready.
One day, I just ran out of pull-ups and went cold turkey First night...woke her up at 11 to go to potty. Woke her up at 3 am to go to potty. No accidents. Second night, 11 and 3:30 am, no accidents. 3rd night 11 and 4:00 am..accident. 4th night I went back to 11 and 3 am, no accidents. I did this for about a week. For the next week I just did 11 pm and she had 1 accident all week. I did this for about 1 week also. Then, I stopped waking her at 11. Now she sleeps through the night (8pm-6am) and very rarely has an accident (I think maybe 1 or 2x). Good luck!

Stupid question- did you set your alarm to wake up to take her to the potty?

Re: Nighttime potty training?
My son is 4 1/2, he will be 5 in May, and still wets sometimes at night.
The ped said not to worry yet. Some kids don't have as much control at night and it can take until they are 6 or sometimes longer.
I use Huggies Overnight Pull Ups! They are awesome!

Re: Nighttime potty training?
My little night owl usually doesn't go to bed until 10:00-10:30 anyway- so the first run won't be a problem. I'm going to try this tonight, though!
