Nikon d40/d40x users. Q for you?

I know lots of you moms have these cameras. Do any of you have the 50mm f/1.8 lens?

Just curious as this is a manual focus right? just wondering if that is a pain.

I am still on the fence about which camera to buy - canon 400d xti or the nikon d40x.

I have called a few camera stores and told them I would be using it mainly to take pics of my DD and some scenery shots and 5 out of 5 pointed me towards the canon.
