Nikon d40 outside lighting question
If you see my post with pics of DD from today, you'll see what I mean.
I love taking pics of her outside. But the coloring seems washed out, KWIM? For example, her eyes are a gorgeous blue/green almost outside, but I can never capture it on film, it's kind of shadowy. Same thing with all the colors overall outside, they're just a little washed out. And I rarely shoot in the direct sunlight, it's more in the shade.
Any tips? Suggestions? Things I could add to the camera to help this? I have the basic filter on the lens to protect it, that's all.
Thanks

Re: Nikon d40 outside lighting question
You can change the default settings on your SLRs & kick up the saturation (how colorful everything is).
What setting are you shooting on?

Oh good lord, don't confuse me I honestly have no idea, it's just the basic set-up the camera comes on. I haven't moved on from that yet Saturation, what's that?
For setting, do you mean Portrait, Normal, etc? Outside I tend to shoot mostly Portrait (LOVE portrait setting )
I need to watch the video it came with!!!!
Thanks Barb

Re: Nikon d40 outside lighting question
Nikons go red on the skin tones very easily - boosting saturation is not usually good for skin tones.
Try shooting on child mode (looks like a little kid with a hat on). It keeps clothing and background colors vivid but skin tones natural.

Oh, I have noticed that mode before but don't know if I've used it yet. Thanks for the tip, I will try it out

What is child mode? Do I need to ditch my D70 for a D40?

No way! It's one of the scene modes (Portrait, Landscape, Macro (the flower). If the D70 doesn't have that exact one, it probably has something similar.

Yeah, all along I've stupidly thought I could only use that for kids-in-motion I'm definitely going to test out the saturation difference with it. But it's hard for me to part with Portrait though
