Nikon DSLR peeps - reccomend your lens
Please let me know which lens(es) you have for the Nikon D series.
I have 2 lenses from my normal SLR. Autofocus, manual zoom. The cheaper kit lenses. One is somethime like 18-55 the other is 70-300.
I know they will work fine on the D80, but I want to get one of the new lenses for the D80. I decided to getthe D80 instead of the D300 partially so I could afford a decent lens. I know theres a kit with 2 lenses, much like what i have for the N80, but I'm sure they're basically the same. I'd rather get one good lens for now
I was looking at this lens: Nikon Zoom Super Wide Angle-Telephoto AF Zoom Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S DX VR II Autofocus Lens
Any thoughts?
What are the differences between lenses for 35mm cameras and for DSLRs? I know the lenses made for digital work better but I'm not sure how or why.
Thanks!

Before I answer - what type of photography are you into and what do you see yourself using this third lens most for?
You already have the two basics.

I want a better lens to use as an all-purpose lens on the digital camera. I want it to be better than the other two I have, but since they are expensive, I want one I can use in most situations.
I use it for -Parties/weddings -Travel -Portraiture -cityscapes/street
I'm stuck in between an 18-65 lens and the 18-200 lens. The smaller lens will be a lot lighter and a little sharper, but the longer lens will mean I can use it in many situations and may not have to carry another lens.

I have an 18-55 and a 55-200. Drives me nuts to have to switch between the 2 all the time. I really want the 18-200.
ETA: If you already have an 18-55 why would you need the new 18-65? Or did I misunderstand you?

I do, but it's a cheapo kit lens, and it's from my 35mm, so there's actually a difference in focal lenght, I think 1.5
But that's a great point. The 18-200 is a lens I don't already have.
That's the one I'm leaning toward.

I would definitely get the 18-200. I have 3 lenses and I still switch back and forth with them all the time and its a pain. The 18-200 covers it all.

Re: Nikon DSLR peeps - reccomend your lens
I just ordered the D80 with the 18-135 and 70-300 lens from Bestbuy. They had a package deal this week on it and also 18 months no interest.
I have been reading every single review (I have been making myself absolutely crazy) about the lenses because I was torn whether to go the 18-135 and 70-300 route or get the 15-200.
Most reviews I read said that the 18-200 was not as sharp as the combo of lenses that I bought. I spent all this money on the camera - I just didn't want to get frustrated if my pictures didn't come out as good as I was hoping. Besides, my kids are involved in a lot of sports so I thought the extra zoom would be good for me.
I am going strictly by reviews that I read. I'm sure that there are many people who have the 15-200 and love it.

Ok then I would definitely go for the 18-100mm VR. I think you'll be very happy with it.
So you decided on the D80, huh? I think you are going to be very happy with that combo, no doubt!
