Re: Nikon moms
What kind of Nikon is it?
I have a Nikon DSLR & could probably sell mine, but it's old, old, old - and definitely wouldn't pay that much for it.
Is it a D40x? D40?

Re: Nikon moms
I will look it up to see. It's in Sears catalogue today and I'd also get my mother's discount.
Are there small not so bulky Nikons?

Re: Nikon moms
DSLRs are bulky. If you're getting it from a Sears catalog, it's not likely to be a discontinued model.
I looked online last night to see what my D70 would sell for since I'm getting a new Nikon (D90). They were selling anywhere from $150-350 on eBay. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't that one.
I'll do a quick online shop to see if it's a good deal.

Thanks so much! Their website has too much traffic so I can't get on right now. What do you suggest as a less bulky one...money no issue?

Re: Nikon moms
I'm going to assume it's the D40 you're looking at.
B&H (where I buy all my camera stuff) is out of stock on the D40 with the 18-55 lens. They are selling it for $499, but also include the DVD & a DLSR bag. They also have it listed with a $50 rebate but since it's out of stock I'm not sure if the $499 includes the rebate or is addition to it.
Sounds like a pretty good deal at first glance.
For a little more money, you can opt for the D40x, which is lighter (since you mentioned bulk). Also I know I say this ad nauseum, but my co-worker bought and completely scored a camera (D60 - I thought it was a D40 but she corrected me last week) from the used department @ B&H. They're selling a D60 with the 18-55 for $379.

Re: Nikon moms
They'll all be bulky but the money is no object option - hands down the Nikon D90 for me.
It's the one I'm buying. Money is an object for me but it's got the latest Nikon technology (which includes a video feature -5 minutes I think & not amazing quality but a nice option) and is about 6 steps of an upgrade from what I'm using now.

The D40x is discontinued and replaced by the D60.
I take my camera everywhere (except super crowded places where I can't really feel my stuff/diaper bag, etc... is safe and I have DS with me).
It is bigger than a point and shoot but so worth it. Sometimes I wish I had a point and shoot yet I know I would not be happy with missing moments. So I decided that my camera was meant to be used and I take it to the Museums, zoo, aquarium, going out with DH and DS to the park, etc...
