I went this past weekend. There were no separate classes - it was one big room set up with chairs and a screen in the front. I guess there were probably 200-300 people.
I did like it, but I was hoping it would have been a little more hands on and more of workshop that would have showed me how to actually use my camera. It was more of teaching and explaining the elements of capturing a good photo - ISO, white balance, shutter speed, etc. They did briefly go over the different presets on the camera too.
They had a brief (about 20 min.) question and answer period, and then between the 2 breaks and lunch you could ask questions too.
They said on the website that you don't need to bring your camera, which is true. I lugged it there and never took it out.
Overall, I'm glad I went. I came out with a little better understanding of everything, but on the otherhand by no means do I still know exactly what I'm doing.
Also, lunch was pretty awful - bring your own!!!

Re: NIKON school - those attended..
I am glad you put this up because I was going to go to the basic one and I realize I know all that stuff and I am just going to take the lighting one instead. I think if your a person who needs a person to actually show them step by step I know Berger Bros (edited for camera store) has classes its on their website.

Re: NIKON school - those attended..
I was looking into the class on 3/22 but got vetoed in the budget dept
Berger Brothers offers a class given by Nikon ($50). It's given every few months. I took it in Feb. and learned a little about the settings but wished it was a little more in depth like the big Nikon one in nyc.
I just started reading The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby. It's great! It tells you what settings to use for which effects, which lenses and in what lighting. It touches on all types of photog. too (portraits, landscapes, weddings, etc.)
