ninth month questions

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow. was just by OB, and no internal - which didn't really bother me, but also didn't do strep B. next appt is not for two weeks. now I'm getting nervous about this, since doesn't seem to be the norm

Re: ninth month questions

I had my 37 1/2 week appointment today and was told that they don't normally do internals until week 38. I did not have an internal at week 36. I asked for an internal b/c I had been feeling some contractions so they did it. I have been seeing the obgyn weekly b/c I have been having some complications. I would call back to ask them when they start weekly appointments.

At my last appt - two weeks ago - I was told next visit in two weeks, then weekly. but yesterday, my OB said everythign looks fine, i can skip next week and come in the beginning of the following week. I'm actually more worried what happens if I go into labor in the next week and a half and strep B wasn't done yet. I forgot to ask at the appt when they do it

Re: ninth month questions

Some doctors do not do internal exams at all. It honestly tells them nothing. You can walk around dilated for weeks and have nothing be going on, and the risk of infection goes up each time you get an internal exam.

The group B strep test however is normally done between 35 and 37 weeks (in my experiences).

One of the dr.'s in my group does not do internals at all, my primary dr. does them at 38. with my DD I had one at 36 and 38. I can't remeber when I got the strepB test.

at my next appt, I will 37.5 weeks - I will definitly ask if they don't do it then.

What happens if I go into labor and strep B wasn't done?

Well, worst case they'll just assume you are positive and put you on the antibiotics. It doesn't require any treatment in advance, just when you are in labor.

Re: ninth month questions

My OB just did my strep B test (36 weeks) but I almost walked out the door without it being done. The assistant looked at my chart and asked me if it had been done which I told her to look in my chart and tell me if they did it.
So I quickly got back on the table so they could do it

Re: ninth month questions

I would call.. I think strep b needs to be done between 35-37....... my internals did not start until 37 though....

A similar thing happened to me with the HIV test, they forgot to give me the form at week 35 and at week 37 I remembered and asked..... otherwise, I think it would have been lost in the shuffle.....
