Also, ebing interfaith, we could ahve the ceremony outdoors if we wanted to.
I'm not sure what being interfaith has to do with having your ceremony outdoors. In the Jewish religion you SHOULD have your ceremony outdoors. In fact the super orthodox no matter the time of year have their ceremonies outside. One entire side of my family is Hassidic and I have been to many weddings in the freezing cold (mostly in the evenings at sundown and once there are 3 stars in the sky). Is it the Catholic side that doesn't allow outdoor ceremonies? I'm just trying to understand.
Thanks

If both partners are catholic you can't have the ceremony outside of church, and I think at some point there is or was a specfic prohibition against outdoor ceremonies, but both are raised to accomodate the needs of interfaith couples

I think it's really nice. I am not really religious, but my mother is Protestant, my father is Jewish and my husband is Jewish. We weren't raised in either religion because my parents didn't want to offend either set of grandparents. We participated in all the holidays of both religions.
I think that if you want to express your beliefs, it's no one's business.

This is not meant as a flame at all, just a genuine question to you and any other interfaith couples -
how do you find the balance in the beliefs that can be so fundamentally different? The Catholic people believe in Jesus as the Son of God while the Jewish people don't, as an interfaith do you choose one belief?
Again not a flame, I'm just curious

If you are both Catholic, you can get married outside of a church, but usually not by a Priest. Some will do it, but it generally isn't done. It must be done within the walls of the church, according to tradition.

I really like it. I am a Christian and I think it not only represents blending of interfaith families, but, I think it, also, does justice to the blending of the Jewish and Christian faiths (i.e. Christians follow Christ who was Jewish).

I like it. I went to the jewelry store with my friend when we were in 7th grade and we picked out the same thing for her and she came home with it and her mom was LIVID because while her dad was catholic, she was being raised jewish.

Re: No flames please: Help me anticipate what kind of responses I'd get wearing something like this
I would probably think that either it was one of those Jews for Jesus emblems or just someone who is a little confused . I think either way, it might be offensive to either religion, probably more so to Judaism.
I hope you don't mind me saying so. You wanted an honest opinion....

just curious...someone wrote about BAR/Bat Mitzvah or Confirmation....since you believe in both I am just curious how that works? WIll youu just let your child make up their mind later on or will you do none? I can appreciate your future thinking and openness to religions...I think its pretty cool to so more open minded people. Boy I am so off topic from your piece of jewelry which of course I still like ; )

Re: No flames please: Help me anticipate what kind of responses I'd get wearing something like this
I have seen those types of pendants before and I would never assume that it means or represents Jews for Jesus. I would think it represents exactly what you intend to use it for.
I am Jewish (as if you didn't know that by now Jenn )and I am not offended if you were to wear it considering, as it had been mentioned, that you follow BOTH Old and New testaments. However, I would be more taken back if a person who is/was raised Jewish by birth and practiced Judaism ONLY wore that. We simply do not read or follow New Testament. I understand the idea of embracing or acknowledging a new family unit as a religious unit and I think it is wonderful thaat you are open to both faiths. The cross represents something my faith does not accept. Thats all.

It's a really complicated and personal question to answer, and I think every interfaith couple has a different response. (I mean some interfaith couples do as I described earlier and completely ignore or repress one faith). For me I feel there are a lot of similarities. For example the whole basis of the religion was Jesus, reforming and reinterpreting Judaism. There was no normative Judaism in the 1st century, and in many ways Jesus's struggle was an intra-Jewish political conflict. A lot of the changes that happenned in later centuries can be attributed to politics, with each faction doing what it could to gain support and discount the other factions. A lot of the changed between today's Christianity and today's Judaism can be attributed to politics, and selectively adopting or rejecting parts of Judaism to suit ones own needs. I believe if Christianity were true to its roots, we would be celebrating Passover, for example, beyond holy thursday.
There's also the concept of Messiah. In Judaism there are two aspects to the Messiah, one is the sacrifical lamb, the scapegoat for the sins of humanity. This aspect is what is focused on by christians, and by account of the Easter story, Jesus did fulfill this. The other concept is the more vengeful messiah who will come powerfully to destroy Israel's enemies, and bring justice to the world. In this way, Jesus failed as messiah, if this is what he intended to do, but I don't think he did intend to do it.
I sort of believe that the second coming christians are waiting for and the messiah jews are waiting for will be one and the same. And I don't believe that Jesus intended to start a new religion. Jesus was a Jew, a prophet and a rabbi, and he believed in his people and his God.

I like it! I was raised Catholic but my dad is Jewish and I think it is nice to represent ALL of you. Mose religions stem from the same or similar doctrines and have more commonality than differences. This is a nice way to show it.
People always have something to say -- do what feels right to you!
