Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?
"Mr." Potato Head was already not gender specific. He's a potato. With parts. And you build him how you want. LOL
So dumb.

Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?
THIS? This is what is bothering you about society? I thought the plots to blow up Capitol Hill with as many people in it as Joe Biden addresses Congress was more pressing, but sure. A toy potato dropping the Mr/Mrs is probably more distressing.
And they will still have Mr and Mrs Potato Head just as they are now, they just won't say Mr. or Mrs. on it.
ETA: Do I think it's silly? Yes, because it's never bothered me one way or another. But there's probably someone out there who it's bothered and if this small change which affects me in NO way whatsoever makes them feel a little better, why not?

It just hi lights the lunacy that seems to be taking over certain spaces in society. Am I losing sleep over Mr. P getting figuratively castrated? No. It’s also nice to talk about nonsense once in a while to take the edge off.

I think it's a positive move in the right direction to become more inclusive. This is something that Hasbro can do to show support for non conforming or binary people. It's a way for corporate America to say to those that feel disenfranchised or marginalize - that they are being seen.

Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?
I’m all for making everyone feel included and I can get behind certain things.
This IMO is a little ridiculous. They already have a mr and Mrs potato head so a person can just buy which ever preference they really want and if they can’t decide they can buy both.
The also have character ones and we have dog ones. And it’s a child’s toy. I get some children at a young age may already know what their sexual preference will be but what difference does it make if its call mr. Mrs. or nothing.
What really needs to be done is for society to accept that kids no matter gender can play with toys that are typically considered gender specific.
And if a person gets offended that mr. potato head is called mr. Potato head or Mrs. potato head they most likely have other issue that have nothing to do with mr/Mrs potato head that they need work out!!

But if it doesn't matter to you, but it makes some people feel better, why not change it? It has zero effect on you, and if anyone is offended by removing the Mr. they most likely have other issues that they need to work out.

What I really don't get is why the change would bother anyone. Most of us probably don't understand why having the Mr. would be problematic but some people are walking through life constantly being reminded that they are not in the mainstream for whatever reason. When I don't understand this kind of change I'm just reminded of my privilege and feel for those who don't have that.

I don't think that it's a matter of being offended. I think it's about looking at a shelf of toys, as a child, and seeing something reflected back that looks like you in some way. That is why Barbie is in a wheel chair. Of why there are black and Asian dolls. So much marketing is directed at children with subversive messages...let this one be something good. Children that are transgender always know that they don't fit in. It's not a choice; it's not something that they suddenly feel...it's always there. Gender identity isn't just for those where it fits and society is geared towards them and their gender. The world shapes what we all see as gender and transgender kids don't have anything, yet.

Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?
When my kids were young, we bought both and they just put what ever they felt like wherever they wanted. That was the joy of the potato head. I did not realize they were shaped differently for Mr. or Mrs. just give all of the parts with a potato. Tongue for an ear, sure, nose for an eye, great. As long as they were having fun I am happy. Edit, I do think representation matters. When I was a child there were no Jewish toys. But by the time my kids were born there was the Rebecca American Girl doll, and a Fisher Price Hanukkah play set. My own kids saw toys that represent them. They were not made to feel marginalized like I was as a child. It is so important for kids to see main stream toys with kids that look like them. It makes them feel seen and acknowledged. After all, that is what everyone wants. To be accepted for who they are and found valuable for just being you.

Well what about Barbie though? She is a female. Ken is a male. What should we do about them? Can we make them gender neutral ?

Re: No more "Mr" Potato Head?
I’m not going to quote everyone.
Do I care in the long run if they really do it no you’re right it makes no difference to me but do I still think it’s ridiculous absolutely.
They have Mr and Mrs why does it have to be gender neutral.
If someone is transgender they identified with one of the sex so it’s not like they cant choose which one they want to play with and it’s a toy for a child.
You’re telling me some kid that was born a boy and wants to be a girl is all upset and offended because he can’t find a Mr. potato head that doesn’t say Mr?
If there are people out there that don’t identify with either gender which confuses me it on its own they should be playing with toys that are geared to boys or girls I don’t understand how anything can even be gender related when it comes to a TOY!!
I get have toys with handicaps, religion careers etc.
Tell me how mr. potato head really is offensive to transgender or whatever else you can be? How many kids are really upset by this??
Again I think other things should Be done for them they should have rights etc but I don’t get how changing mr. potato head to be just potato head, that some child is all of a sudden going to feel so good about themselves. Plus they have all different kind of potato heads already!
To me it’s a ridiculous means nothing move.
They want to be more inclusive create a transgender doll I guess??!! I don’t know what really could be sold for a transgender which I thought that just means you want to be the opposite sex and there’s plenty of toys for each sex. Sell thins that have 2 moms, 2 dads etc all that makes sense.
This makes 0 sense. Again not losing sleep over it. I’m not mad about it. Just don’t see the point of it and not sure how this make anything positive. there other things that can be done.

What is gender neutral??? Why do things have to be gender neutral??! I’m so confused!!
Who cares if a girl plays with a “boy” toy or vice versus.
Again I will say it’s society’s way of thinking and advertisement anything can be gender neutral just say it is!!!
And Nell this is not towards you!

Yep! I agree with you. So if we can't have a Mr. And a Mrs. Potato Head, then we shouldn't have Barbie and Ken dolls, girl dolls and boy dolls etc

Why not keep mr and Mrs and add on to the product line with another one? Like just potato head? The box can have things from both. I’m all for inclusiveness but I don’t understand why things have to be rebranded. Keep what’s there but expand the line with gender neutral.

Why must this be headline news? Just rebrand the toy and move on.
It’s a kids toy. Stop forcing this down kids throats. They are young impressionable minds. I’m so sick of watching kids/family shows with my kids and these topics come up. It’s confusing to them at a young age, little boys start to question if they play with a doll does that mean they should be a girl like the kid they saw on tv? It’s too big of a concept for such little minds to accept. Kids should just be taught to be kind to everyone. We don’t need to be exposing them to such deep thoughts that they can’t process.

Rebranding is all about one thing, an opportunity to make money. When was the last time anyone bought a potato head? This is a chance to make people aware that the toy exists. If you think that taking away mr or Mrs is hasbro trying to take a step in the right direction to make the toy more inclusive you are a fool.

My kids had a potato head (which is what I always called it anyways). My nieces and nephews do. It’s a classic toy that most kids have.

It's just a corporation trying to get in front of someone calling them out for being "insensitive". It's ridiculous and I would think the majority of children who are the age to play with Mr. Potato Head have no idea what gender neutral even means. They come with so many different parts to use, they already could have made the toy into whatever they want.

Couldn’t agree more. As I was reading the previous comments, I was thinking that kids that still play with Mr or Mrs Potato Head do not yet know anything about gender neutrality or that they already identify with a different gender.
I also agree with those comments that said that instead of changing what already exists (dropping the Mr and Mrs), why not just add another Potato Head that would be more gender neutral but then again I feel that this would be more to appease those adults that have an issue with this and not to benefit the children because like I said before, if children are playing with this kind of toy, their little minds are not there yet.
