Noisy Neighbors - What To Do?
We live in a co-op on the first floor and our upstairs neighbors for the past 3 weeks have been making noise at all hours of the day, starting very early in the morning with the TV blasting and walking back and forth to what sounds like furniture moving. Not sure what we should do - I don't think they have the carpeting they're supposed to. I thought of writing a note to them or going to introduce myself and saying something, but not sure what to say. Or do we call the managing agent?
ANy advice is appreciated. I think its new people b/c previously it was an elderly woman and we only heard noise when her kids were visiting with their 2 dogs.
THanks!

Re: Noisy Neighbors - What To Do?
I would pay them a visit. Introduce yourselves and let them know that sounds are really carrying. Maybe they don't know how to live above somebody.
I know I didn't when I had an upstairs apartment years ago and DH had to tell me.
Worth a shot? You don't want to "report" them. You want nice neighbors who like you especially if you have to live below them.

Re: Noisy Neighbors - What To Do?
sticky question as either way could backfire...
with a co-op, im sure their are "laws" the people are suppose to follow. With that, i would obtain a copy to make sure there is a noise law (with our co-op their is) and just document when it keeps happen.. if you go there to talk to people, document the converstaion, date, etc...
we had the same problem ourselves but it just got worst. they were fined and we also called the police on them. i think its a lose/lose situation as we tried to be adult about it and felt it just got wrost...when they get fined by the board, it should teach them a lesson and having the cops come at 2am on a work night beucase you decided to party and stomp on your floor (we are on the first floor) we leave fooled..... at the end of our ordeal, one person was kicked out (if they came back, it would be considered trespassing) and the main owner moved out of state....
Try to talk to them, just bring any rules and please tell them to please follow them as you have no choice to send a letter to the board as that's thier job, and not your trying to resolve your self.

Wow - Babyboy - sounds like a bad situation, I hope ours doesn't come to that. Thanks both for your advice! I'm going to check the laws and then maybe talk to them.

Re: Noisy Neighbors - What To Do?
I would definitely speak to them. i used to live in a condo with neighbors below. We didnt even realize how loud it was for them until they told us! then we made sure to walk lightly and keep the TV low.... They probably have no idea they are so loud!
