Non-dissolvable stitches in mouth
Has anyone had this? I had to get the rest of two wisdom teeth out today (original surgeon did not take them out completely) because one was infected. The surgeon here said let’s just get the other one out since we are in there.
Now I have real stitches in my mouth. I always remember having dissolvable.
Anyone have this before?

Re: Non-dissolvable stitches in mouth
Yes. I had 2 teeth pulled at once a long time ago. One was a molar that had a crack to the root that was not salvageable. It was on the same side and top of my mouth as a wisdom tooth they were annoying me about getting out. So I figured while i Had that side numb he should do both. The wisdom tooth was easy-it was so decayed apparently and not deeply rooted that it pretty much popped out- no stitch required.
The molar was more work to get out and required one stitch that was not dissolvable. However before I made it to my one week follow up to have it removed it fell out. I remember I was eating something almost a week in and it kind of fell out and I felt it and grabbed it and and was like a cross stitch. Like an X I guess as it healed my gums just kind of pushed it out.
Anyway it was fine. If yours doesn't fall out like mine did the dentist will just pop it out when you go back. It should be easy and quick and painless. I had a bunch of stitches removed from my eyebrow last year and it was super fast and didn't hurt either and that was a more delicate area.

Thanks. That makes sense. The root was pretty deep, so now I understand why they used regular stitches. I hate the way they do pain management here. There is no laughing gas. If I wanted that, I would need to hire an anesthesiologist. So basically I got some liquid before, like a form of Valium and then Novacaine (Lidocaine here). And for pain afterwards, I got a prescription for ibuprofen. Such a joke.
I get the stitches removed in 5 days. Got the whole chipmunk cheeks going on. I thought I was done with this years ago. Apparently not. Cursing my oral surgeon on Long Island now.
