Question about caring for stitches inside the mouth
We had the craziest day over here -DS fell and busted the inside of his upper lip open. I'm not really one to gag at the sight of blood but I felt myself getting dizzy when I saw the amount of blood everywhere!! Anyways, long story short, we went to the ped who sent me to the ER at Mercy, where DS got 4 stitches (while wrapped up like a mummy and screaming his head off ) He's also taking antibiotics for a week to prevent any infection. Anyone have a similar experience, where their child got stitches? How do you clean the area, if at all?? Can I brush his teeth?

Re: Question about caring for stitches inside the mouth
My DS had an accident 3 years ago and got almost 50 stitches in and around his mouth. You would not believe how fast it heals. We could not brush his teeth the first 24 hours, after that very gently. He had to rinse after eating too with plain water. It went from being totally horrible to look at to healing nicely within days. But I would call the plastic surgeon or oral surgeon who did your DS's stitches to confirm.
I'm sorry about the accident, it is so painful as a parent as well. Hope he's feeling much better very soon.
