Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
Any one have info. or experience with this type of cancer... I know one is really bad, but not sure if it's this one or the Hodgkin's Lymphoma. My uncle in Ireland was just diagnosed with non-Hodgkins stage 4 today and they've already started chemo. so i'm thinking the worst...

Re: Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
My uncle had hodgkins and then 12 yrs later was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins lymphoma...
He basically beat the cancer with radiation and chemo....4 weeks on, four weeks off for a while. He did very well..he was in his 40's. his issue was a bad heart. He had had 2 previous heart attacks ( non related to either cancer)...so trying to fight the non hodgkins was too much on his heart.
Through him, we met a few people who fought the battle and I participate in a LOT of Luekemia and lymphoma charity events...I have met a TON of survivors and the survivors outweigh the fatalities in that type of cancer by far.
There is a lot more known about it these days and he has an EXCELLENT chance at a full recovery.
My prayers are with you all!

Re: Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
Thanks. . . .. do you know if it's the NON-hodgkins or the other one is the more severe? He is also a diabetic with kidney problems, so his health isn't the greatest as it is....

they are both about equal...Different diseases......but compared to MANY cancers, the survival rate is very high.

So sorry for your loss. . . .
This is what I thought.... lymphoma is bad as it is...and i had feeling this one was one of the most severe. My mom had lymph nodes removed b/c of breast cancer "just in case" --- so I know that cancer even NEAR the lymph nodes is just NOT good...let alone IN it.
Unfortunately, I am not feeling too good about it all. I don't know too much yet about how he is being treated just yet... in terms of chemo. and radiation doses, etc. because we just found out today and he's in Ireland so it's a lot of phone tag....
But i am tihnking if they rushed him to a bigger/better hospital an hour and half from his home and already started chemo. after finding out only early today, it can't be good.
Any websites with good info. that you might know of?

Re: Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma
my dad had this type of cancer about 6 years ago. i'm not sure what stage he was in when they found it, but he went through about 3 months of chemo, and to see him today, you would never know he had been through cancer. he is doing great ( knock on wood!). when he was first diagnosed, one of the doctors said " we treat lung cancer, but we can CURE lymphoma". meaning that its one of the easier to beat cancers. again, i'm not sure what stage he was in- maybe stage 2?? but he made is through and is doing fine now. if you have any more questions or just need to talk, feel free to FM me
