North Shore Hospital Girls NEW QUESTION ADDED
I got this big booklet of paperwork from the hospital through my ob-gyn... and it said that the private rooms are first come first serve and cost extra. I thought everyone got a private room. What are these "semi-private" rooms like? Is it two people per room or more? Is there extra furniture to accompany each husband/guest? Are bathrooms shared? I really was looking forward to a private room... I am scared I won't get one now and kind of upset over it!!!

Re: North Shore Hospital Girls
Your doc must have given you old paperwork. I just delivered last Sunday at North Shore and every room is a single, and they are pretty fabulous! HTH

I'm not in NY anymore but my step mom works at NS. That definitely sounds like old paperwork. They have their own pavilion now and it's all private rooms. No worries!! Call them and set up a tour! I hear it's amazing!!!!
Back when I used to be a candystriper there (I worked at 3 monti which was the old maternity ward but this was over 15 years ago now), there were almost all double rooms, one completely private room that was for a mourning mother, and one room that could have up to 4 women in it. It was still a lovely place, but the new pavilion is supposed to be amazing!

Re: North Shore Hospital Girls NEW QUESTION ADDED
I guess it is old paperwork. That makes me feel better that I will be having a private room... BUT... not good that I am reading old paperwork. Why does my office give me old information?
It tells me I am supposed to go to 3 monti... so if that is the OLD maternity ward... how do I know where to go now? Where do I enter and where do I park?

I wonder how to get the J-Lo suite?
She actually was up on 9 monti, which is where the private suite-like rooms were (my step mom, who works there, was on that floor when she had open heart surgery a few years ago -- employees get those rooms half price). I imagine if JLo was there today, she wouldn't need to be anywhere but the new pavilion. It actually seems even nicer than the suite floor.
A little bonus fact for anyone ever just hanging out at NSUH is that 9 monti isn't a protected floor (unlike where the nursery is and all) and the lounge up there is NICE and has a computer to use, huge bathroom, and free coffee/tea. So if you're ever at NSUH and have some time to kill and don't feel like sitting downstairs, go up to 9 monti and just hang out there on the nice couches. It's super clean in that lounge, too. (It's right through the main doors next to the elevators so you don't pass the nurse station or anything when you walk in, so it's not like anyone asks why you're there.)

I bet the new pavilion is amazing! I also think it's a separate building, so it won't make sense to go to 9 monti. More of a tip for other visits to the hospital.
I haven't been there in a few years since moving oos, so I could also be dating myself.

You still go to 3 monti...labor and delivery is still in the same place-you will be brought to maternity after you deliver.

You still access (or can access) through the main entrance, walking past the Monti elevators - the new pavilion is further down on the left, toward radiology.
On an aside - does anyone know if the new parking structure is completed? Parking is such a pita there - I'm really hoping it's done for my May 16th date

Yes they have free wi-fi. I'm actually here right now taking advantage of it. Although sometimes you get knocked off. I've been here for 2 1/2 weeks on bed rest. The rooms are nice. Good thing because I'll be here a while longer

I don't believe the new parking structure is complete. I've been here for 2 1/2 weeks and my DH just ends up parking up the hill where the parking is FREE. It was getting $$ to pay for parking everyday! Good thing it's nice out now so the walk isn't too bad for DH and DS.

I'm sorry your on bed rest. When I was pregnant with my son, I was there on bed rest for a couple of weeks right before they finished construction so I had to share one room with 3 or 4 other girls. Do you have a private room?

Wow! I couldn't imagine sharing a room with that many people right now. I'm very lucky to be in a huge private room. They keep telling me I'm in the biggest room. Plenty of place for my son to play when he visits
