North Shore university hospital Manhasset
Please tellme what your expereience was like. Are the nurses nice? Do they push BF? How many to a room in post pardom/maternity? I hate that LIJ has 4 to a room. Does anyone know when the renovations will be complete?

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I had a great experience there in May of 2008.
Nurses were excellent. They didn't push BF, which was difficult for me because I wanted to and I didn't see a LC until day 2. We struggled with BF in the hospital (although it all worked out fine). My room had 2. SInce I had a c-section, I got the window. They do it this way since c-sections stay longer. I can't help you with the renovations.

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I gave birth there in May! I have nothing negative to say! My story is a little different though. I was admitted about a month before giving birth. The day my DD was born, after recovery, they let me stay in my room which I was in. Since I was there so long, I was given a private room. There were babies in my "wing". I "think" there were 3 beds to a room (when I was first admitted, into high risk, there were 3 beds). The nurses and staff were amazing. When I was in L&D for 8 hours (I had a c section) they were GREAT (I had to wait for the surgery because I ate breakfast and we didn't know exactly when DD was going to be born..it was a day by day situation). Again, nothing negative! Dr.s, Nurses, all amazing!!!

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I had DS there in July.
I had a really good experience. The nurses were very nice and helpful and did not push BFing at all. When you are admitted they ask you if you plan to BF and that is it. If you say no - they do not push it.
I was in a room with 1 other person. Since I was a c-section I got the space by the window. I did not love having to share but it wasn't a huge deal.

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I had DS in Jan 09 and had a wonderful experience.
the nurses were awesome, in fact my L&D nurse came the next day to find me in maternity to see the baby and how everything went.
the night I had DS the hospital was very crowded and I was put in a triple but got moved as soon as a double opened up
Dr. Melissa Oppenheim did my CS, Im part of her group - Bergman, Marchbein, Morris-Rush

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I gave birth there in April and had a good experience. I got to L&D 10 minutes before a shift change. But they were quick about it. There were two beds to a room. But the rooms were pretty big so it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. (I wasn't going to pay 750 a night for a private!!) Nurses were very nice. They don't push BF. I did want to try it and it wasn't working out. It took a long time for the LC to come around.

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I delivered there in November of last year.
My overall experience was just ok....for #2 I am going to NY Presbyterian.......
the nurses were nice (but I delivered on Thanksgiving so they only had few on the shift)...I was BFing and had a wonderful lactation nurse who helped me tremendously....take the free BF classes, they really help....
I had very high blood pressure after delivery so I was kept in their high risk unit....it was terrible....the rooms are very very tiny, they were hot and had tiny tvs..(just something to think about if you end up there)......after 2 days there I was transferred to the regular maternity unit...I had a private room which was just ok...for $750 a night it was not worth it, nothing special.....the rooms are in need of renovations so I am hoping they will get better after they are renovated.....it is still the best hospital on LI so you will be ok....

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
I gave birth in Dec 08 there, had a great experience, my OB is Dr. Trongone and the L/D nurses were WONDERFUL...I delievered really quickly on a very busy night, soooo I actually was left in the L/D private room for the first night and then had a shared room the next two nights. The nurses in recovery were helpful and they were nice to all visitors. They did not pressuer me to BF, I was, but didn't feel pressured one way or another

Re: North Shore university hospital Manhasset
My OB is Trongone and I delivered at NSUH in Jan 09. I had a good experience. I wasn't overly impressed with anything or anyone except for 1 overnight nurse and my OB. I had a private room and I agree with the poster that mentioned renovations. I wasn't charged for a private room but I don't think I'd pay for it. It wasn't really worth it. Especially for a v-delivery since the stay is so short. Overall, I'd deliver there again.
