Norwalk Aquarium in Ct. & Stepping Stones Museum
Has anyone been to either? Are they all day places? How does the aquarium compare to the one in Riverhead? We are going to Lake Compounce soon, so we are thinking of hitting both of these the following day(s).

Re: Norwalk Aquarium in Ct. & Stepping Stones Museum
Took the family to Norwalk Aquarium a few weeks ago. It was great- we spent most of the day there, opening until 3 then drove nearby to a creamery for ice cream. we packed a small lunch and ate on the picnic tables by the river. DD,4, had a great time and we did too! It was a very hot day and most everything is inside and air conditioned.

Great, thanks!
P.S., there is a Travelzoo deal for Stepping Stones. $15 for 2 admissions , $29 for 4

Re: Norwalk Aquarium in Ct. & Stepping Stones Museum
I've been to both and loved them both. I though the Norwalk Aquarium was much better than the Riverhead one.
It probably depends on the age of your kids whether or not they are all day places. DS is only 2, so he can't really do all day outings anywhere. I think we spent about 3 hours in each place (on different days).

I like both places. But just do you know, Norwalk isn't all that close to Lake Compounce- probably an hour and a half to two hours.

Its an hour according to my GPS (we are in Bristol now), and a half hour from our ferry home, so its fine. I knew they weren't near lake compounce. Thanks everyone.
maybe you are thinking of norwich?

We ended up going to Stepping Stones today. Spent about two hours. It's cute, but it's smaller than I expected. The tot area looked cute, but my kids are too big for that. The exhibits they do have are clean, all the pieces were there, and the place was immaculate! I'm glad I used the Travel Zoo deal though, as $15 per person is pricey for what it is IMO. Although I later found out it was free admission day for families with children that have special needs...which was us. Oh well. It was an hour from Lake Compounce (Bristol), and it took us about 20 minutes to get back to Bridgeport for the ferry. We skipped the aquarium, as I found out there is no sea lion show. Nice little getaway, and the best part was no NYC traffic!

Re: Norwalk Aquarium in Ct. & Stepping Stones Museum
How did Stepping Stones compare to the Children's Museum of LI or the Children's Museum of Manhattan?
We are flying to Boston next week and doing a New England drive down back to DC (where we live).
We plan to do a day in CT and visit friends in New Haven. We will most likely spend a night in New Haven so prefer something pretty close to there.
We went to Mystic when DS#1 was a baby. I was not impressed back then but I still judged places with my pre-children eyes. Fast forward a few years, if my kids have a good time, I am happy.

I've never been to the Manhattan one. It's much smaller than the LICM, but much cleaner and nicer! Did I mention everything works? LOL. LICM has a lot of broken things every time we go! We have also been to the Kid City Museum in CT (last year after Lake Compounce), and that was a fun one! Not sure if that's on your way though.
